just like they say GOTH anytime they see black....:ninja:

B)

I have decided, ever since Suzy was confused and baffled (in her own words) by something I got loud and clear, that I don't need to take what I read in IHT very seriously anymore ;) :D :p

Sometimes she has a good point, and other times I have no idea what she's on about (and I suspect she may not either, but she has to turn in a story whether she has a clue or not, whereas I have the choice to remain silent ;))

 Very true.

I don’t want to over-intellectualize at all just like to analyze the visuals…

Could the mixed-prints be a comment about embellishment /logo mania and commercial design-> where sticking a logo on a T (rollingstone lips) means big bucks and union-jack, camo, Hawaiian prints mean instant ‘punk, army, retro’ fashion stories.

Whereas CdG has always been more about experimenting with shape/silh/technique & that is where true craft lies in design? 'End of an Era' in that we are saturated with all the embellishment and status conferred by logos & wanting something more authentic? Just a theory & again, perhaps obvious ;)

PS. Beautiful crown details- thx for posting :flower:

That crown with the slogans is interesting:

"Trend or Faux"
"Empire"
"Empty"
"Vacant"
"Reign"
"Save the Queen"
and perhaps most telling...
"a fashionist regime"

Maybe this whole "fashion as empire" theory holds some water.

the CROWNS are wonderful...

now THAT is fashion as art...
completely creative and free from commercial constraints...
what a dream project for stephen jones indeed...

Anyway, I think some of it is truly breathtaking!
:woot: Didn't know what to think at first but I love the pieces you've posted!

These are so much better when seen in detail.

I must have an Erector set crown! :woot:

Tartan and God Save the Queen - the last line of God Save the Queen is about crushing rebellious Scots, coincidence?

nqth...speaking as a punk myself...:p
it's pretty much just anything or anyone who is anti-establishment...
someone or thing that doesn't follow the rules...usually of society...
challenges the system, etc...
rebelliousness is the main thing....
and in that sense...i would say that rei is and always has been a 'punk'...

I agree..to answer nqth's question....I don't think she is referencing Punk (as in red tartan punk) but rather she is being a punk (her philosophy). Actually having had a think about your 'explanation' nqth...i think she is may be proposing her theme on a few levels....the (obvious) British empire (albeit flawed imo) take on End of Empire, the End of Fashion Empire (as the Baron above spoke of) and the End of Empire (i.e the era of clothing as we know it) and a return to ancient methods of covering our bodies....

Oh who knows......too much theorising for today.

.....nice frigging skirts...........

I just love that multi-colored tam pompom atop the crown!!

Some of the tartan fabric is just gorgeous ...

Love the subversive mottos ... if only the Queen did have a fashionist regime ^_^ ... far from it I'm afraid ...

Some extra punk context...here are the lyrics to the Sex Pistols song "God Save The Queen" (not to be confused with the anthem of the same name). Take particular note of the first line:

God save the queen! Her fascist regime
It made you a moron, a potential H-bomb

God save the queen, She ain't no human bein'
There is no future in England's dream-in

Don't be told what you want, don't be told what you need
There's no future no future no future for you

God save the queen, we mean it ma'am
We love our queen, god saves
God save the queen, cos tourists are money!
and our figurehead is not what she seems
Oh god save history! god save your mad parade!
Oh lord god have mercy all crimes are paid!

When there's no future how can there be sin?
We're the flowers in the dustbin
We're the poison in your human machine
We're the future, your future!

God save the queen, we mean it ma'am!
We love our queen, god saves!

God save the queen, we mean it man!
There is no future, in England's dream-ing!

No future, no future, no future for you
No future, no future, no future, for me
No future, no future, no future, for you

And to follow up on PrinceOfCats's note, yes, verse 6 of the anthem does refer to crushing the Scots, but it has fallen out of use along with verses 4 and 5...only the first 3 are commonly sung.

Here's verse 6:

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen!

very interesting discussion -as usual- but i'm still not convinced on the brilliance of this..
i actually liked most looks johnny posted, but this is it..
oh yes, the crowns are a great idea.. i could certainly use them as deco items

as for the punk queen... imho, she needs to freshen up, cause this is getting a tiny bit repetitive boring after all these years.. bump after bump..

and yes, i'm sad because her last collection was a dream..

Here's verse 6:

And this is, "constitutionally", our (the Scots') national anthem..... .

Maybe Rei's next collection will be 'Scots Wah Hae'? Noone's done tartan trompe l'oeil yet, it could be a bit of existencillism for Rei...

(as long as it's not bloody Hen Wlad Fy Nhadu combined with the Abba logo)

..shhhhh dont say trompe l'oeil your highness :ninja:
