Hi all! next year, I will be attending the fashion design program at Ryerson University in Toronto. I'm busy looking for a notebook computer to take with me, something affordable, but that will also be useful through out my education and be able to support any software that i may need. Right now the apple ibook G4 is looking like a good choice, but I'm wondering if anyone may have an other suggestions based on what you know or your experience. Any ideas would definitely be greatly appreciated:) thanks...

My dad has 2 IBM labtops and they're both really good. I personally hate apples, but I heard they're better for arts stuff and if you're going into design they might really be a better chioce. Check out eBay for some good deals.

About art stuff....I use MathCad and AutoCad, these 'eat' RAM and CPU. I bought my newest computer (not this toshiba) for the Cad softwares, i was careful with choosing processor and video card.

I've had several laptops.. all have been unreliable.. I prefer my desktop.

Right now I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop...I'm happy with it. My mom was going to get me a Apple one but I'm kinda glad she didn't because I've had problems with a lot of files being sent to me not compatible with a Apple...I prefer Windows over Mac too.

I'm using a VAIO too...this one's a new one (the PCG-V505EX), because my old Sony VAIO broke down!! :( I was a bit hesitant about getting another VAIO, but my boyfriend said that it's an "isolated incident", and he said that I should definitely get the VAIO because it's smaller...

I like it, but I hope it doesn't break down like the old one :ninja:

hmmm this is all very interesting. I guess ive been really turned on by the ibook because its really affordable, because of its reputation for being the choice of (or at least macs being the choice of) graphics-oriented people, and it seems to have qualities i need and not-have qualities i dont need. ive also checked out Dell, but those really dont look any cheaper than anything else ive found, and nothing particularily sticks out as being tailored to me, really. Ive checked out the software I'd need: MS Office student edition, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark... all of which are available in Mac editions.... even in using those programs on a mac, are there file transfer issues? Thats my biggest concern.

I checked out both the toshiba and the vaio... they both certainly look like they have their pros and cons like everything else. i guess its just figuring out what pros you need and what cons you can live with..... something im still trying to figure out...

I greatly appreciate all the feedback, and anymore is certainly great:) its interesting to hear what people like in their computer.....

i would go with the mac. i love mine [G5] and i would really like to get a lap top, even though i'm taking this one with me.

yippie.

oooo my computer's gonna have a baby soon...i'm expecting an ipod.

[:

also...the color of a mac is AMAZING!!!!!!!. i'm astounded when i look at the same picture on my sister's pc which sits right next to mine, the quality doesn't compare.

I think so too....urs was just one of those few.

I have a Vaio computer and a laptop and both are wonderful...I got them because my other 2 unreliable comps were driving me nuts...my old MAC kept freezing on me so I trashed it...but maybe mine was just evil.

I dunno but I think they're kinda pretty too I like the sleekness of Sony...I noticed something though...all my electronics from my comp, laptop, dvd, radio and tv are all Sony in silver.

I have these...this is my desktop..the folding Sony Vaio. The VAIO W500GN1. This thing is freaking awesome. I have a lot more space because it doesnt have a big bulky box as a brain, then speakers and a screen that take up all my desk...this is just all in one...and i can fold the keyboard up so now I can actually see my desk... :woot: ...less plugs and wires too.I hate wires.
