How old is he? Can't be older than 35, surely, but such deeply formed forehead lines already....
I'm not a huge Carine fan but I do appreciate that she is trying to pick up and mentor young talent & not in way that feels inauthentic like Anna. CR veers a bit close to Dazed territory sometimes, but I appreciate the humor lacking in other magazines.
I love Carine but for once, i’ll defend Anna over her...
Carine is pushing younger talents because she don’t have any choice. She is working with Hearst and the majority of the talents she has been working with have contracts with CN.
Anna’s use of young talent is both genuine and opportunistic because it’s an industry. She has always pushed young talents.
In France, Babeth Djian was really the one who discovered young talents that are working today with bigger publications.
The sad thing is that Carine’s best work nowadays is still with the established names. The standard of CN were higher and her team back then was stronger.
Carine has left VP 8years ago and i’m Still waiting to see the real contribution of CRFB in terms of talents.
We can say that M&M or I&V became stars with VP, that Benjamin Bruno or Julia Von Boehm came from that team.
I don’t think we can name Ben Peirrera, Ronnie Hart, Mitch M or Sebastian Faena as future stars.
Hearst and the majority of the talents she has been working with have contracts with CN.
I agree with both you and Sophia. Carine does allow more creative freedom than other mentors. Unlike Anna who would likely say something along the lines of 'Do what you do, but remember, this is Vogue. Lift it!', it's pretty much open season at CRFB and Bazaar. I personally find that endearing about Carine, but I do also know that it may be the reason why she's finding it so hard to sell her photographers to other brands. Editorial work in magazines is as much an expression of creativity as it is an advertising effort to secure more work. You'll find the photographers with safe and accessible work under Carine had a far better success rate than the ones who went all avant-garde. Niedermair just scored a massive Dior campaign and regular stints at Vogue Italia, and DeBuscherre is a name which means something in the industry. Faena had all the opportunities through his connection to Carine, which even led to regular edits in V. So his failures are all on himself.
I do agree that her reach or level of influence is limited. But because fashion thrives on association (hers being Chane, TF, MM, Plein), we still reference her name in the same breath as Anna and Babeth. She can book a photographer for her own magazine or Bazaar, but she cannot persuade Max Mara to ditch Meisel, Tom to ditch Klein, or tell Karl not to photograph anything.... all in favour of her protege. And then there's still Plein, who desperately wants to be part of the HF conversation, so he'll hold onto Klein, the Vogue photographer, for dear life.
So I'd say given what she can rely on, which is basically only Chanel,TF, Max Mara and Plein, she's doing well. My God, in this pitiful state she still managed to build up Gigi and Halima Aden too, and look where they are now. There are others with a far more prestigious platform who can't be asked to even back a new model from the start, let alone a photographer.
It looks like they tried to go for a vintage GQ/Esquire vibe, but it just doesn't work because the guy is posing like he's in full heart throb mode. Not relaxed enough for the setting.

And so what? What is wrong with having lines in your face? Absolutely nothing. Comments like these are just so rude and problematic.
