The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum held an exhibition last year entitled "Feeding Desire: Design and the Tools of the Table, 1500 - 2005."

The exhibition website is very informative, you should check it out and here's a taste of what you might find:

Forks, knives, and spoons from a flatware set. Made by Claude Lalanne (b. 1925). France, 1966. Silver.

so cool!! :woot:
those photos are fantastic
thanks for posting them dos :flower:

i love how different they are...
it's nice to see "old" and romantic looking pieces when the focus is often on the new, sleek and ultra-modern look...

the utensils you posted have a lot of character and i like that..
beautiful!

they look very tribal softie...almost like the bottom of the cutlery is 'wrapped' on tightly..
dont know how to explain myself but they look great...thx for sharing..

yeah- it's like tribal tattoos...

that's why i like them...^_^...
she did salt shakers like that that are round little balls with that pattern....
i used to really want those...
:p

inhabitat

Spudware..
cutlery made from 80% potato starch and 20% soy oil that’s just as heat resistant and every bit as strong as plastic cutlery....
it biodegrades in just 180 days...it can even be washed and reused...
a party pack of 50 spoons, 50 forks and 50 knives costs $20 at www.treecycle.com

how wild...:woot:

To elaborate on one of your photos Strawb:

Zo-Loft, an Italian design group, turns office items into cutlery.

The cutlery series, called Din-Ink, exists of a set of pocket pen tops that turns into a knife, fork and spoon whenever you want.

All tops are made from renewable resources, like natural starch and fibres, which are 100% biodegradable, non toxic and hygienic.

Together with the compostable wrapping, the whole dining set is designed to be environment-friendly.

^love this idea very much
 though i wonder about safety
the possibility of the ink seeping through

just the idea of eating something you work with :ninja:

what does it mean by hygienic... it cleans itself...?
