It's nearly impossible to describe Yigal Azrouël's clothes without the word sex inserting itself, even when it comes to his casual Cut25 by Yigal Azrouël collection. But for Spring 2015, Azrouël wanted his contemporary line to be more about an inner confidence than an outwardly body-con look. The focus, therefore, was on dresses and separates with sporty, tomboy details. "It's street but very fresh," Azrouël said. A palm tree print pervaded the collection, showing up on everything from a red-and-white bomber with kimono sleeves to a kicky pale blue tennis dress with a chunky white zipper pull. He even embroidered metallic palm trees on a black vest, which was worn with a pair of paper-bag-waist trousers.
The point of differentiation for Azrouël's black jumpsuit, which seems to have become a contemporary-collection requisite, was the wrap top and nylon-webbing belt, also kimono-inspired. There was jersey, too. A pair of gray sweatpants was given a trouser-like look with bar-tack stitch pockets and curved seams, while a gray sweatshirt was embroidered with, yes, palm trees. To be honest, the latter had to be the least effective use of that oft-repeated motif. (Attention, designers everywhere: No more gray sweatshirts, please! Dresser drawers across the globe are overflowing.)
Overall, though, it was a fun collection. One that, despite the contrary evidence, was still pretty sexy.
