What does get Guinness chatting is her forthcoming limited-edition scent for Comme des Garçons, Daphne, due in April. Always passionate about scent, Guinness has long mixed her own concoctions. “My bathroom is like a chemist shop,” she says. The standard offerings have just never cut it for her. “Going into department stores, they try to spray you like a mosquito,” she adds with horror. Guinness swoons when recounting her trips to the Paris laboratory of Givaudan, the eminent fragrance house. “I thought, I know a bit about this, but when I got there, it was suddenly like playing with the London Philharmonic,” she says. “There’s the string section, the horns…it was beautiful. I thought I was in that moment in 2001: A Space Odyssey.”
For a woman who has identified Lord Nelson as a style icon, Guinness admits that her tastes are “quite odd.” In scent, she aims to conjure up the smells of men’s colognes and churches—evocations of her childhood. “But I am turning that slightly feminine,” she says. To that end, she features musky notes of amber, cypress, tuberose and orange. “But tweaked, tweaked, tweaked,” she emphasizes. Her control extends to the packaging. Inside the linen paper box, a plain but engraved bottle is nestled in red velvet. “It’s no frills or bells. I wanted to get to the core,” she says. “I’ve got a lot of myself invested in this.”

Socialite, heiress and fashion icon (she has been described as the best dressed woman in the world) Daphne Guinness will launch Daphne, her debut fragrance, in September. The scent was made in collaboration with Comme des Garçons. Guinness noted that perfume “…takes you away from the everyday and you are transported to something in your past. It’s a very mysterious thing.”
Daphne was developed by perfumer Antoine Lie, and features notes of bitter orange, incense, saffron, rose centifolia, Tunisian jasmine, tuberose, iris, patchouli, oud, amber and vanilla.
Comme des Garcons + Daphne Guinness Daphne will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for $140.

Seems everyone is releasing a fragrance nowadays...dont know how I feel about Daphne doing one, she certainly doesnt need the revenue...I am in agreement with everyone else that that Proenza dress is the first time I have not liked something Mrs. Guinness has worn. It ages her. Here is another photo-she's making a face like, "I hate this outfit...gotta go change!"

^ Is that white band on her leg the elastic of a pair of thigh highs...? :brows:

^I agree that this isn't the best of Daphne's outfit, for me it's a bit fussy on her.

i find her make up really amazing, the effect of the smoky eyes... looks great, and the soft lipstick (i absolutely adore her usual red lipstick, but this is a nice change)

love daphne, to me her and roisin murphy are the real style icons of the brit pack imo not the likes of kate/alexa/peaches/victoria or whoever

I think she looks incredible, those eyes and hair are just beyond, really quite incredible. I think the outfit is ok, as much as I adore daphne in black, white, and grey I think it would be useful to us all to see her in a bit of colour. I must say though these pictures certainly highlight how short she is, I can't remember who said it but something along the lines of 'don't ever meet your icon, because they'll only disappoint you' comes to mind, I just know in the flesh she would be nothing like how I imagined, tall, commanding, and powerful! I think I'll stick to this thread.

^ That's so true! I can think of a few celebs I have met that were shockingly small in person (Kelly Ripa, Tom Jones and Paul Newman)- almost weird when you realize it's really them!!
And, Daph always seems to be wearing those platform shoes- I bet she is really tiny walking around the house... ^_^

Daphne Guinness talks scent, perfect pitch & squirrel holes
I spent an hour with Daphne Guinness yesterday afternoon to see—and smell—her first fragrance, a collaboration with Comme des Garcons. Wearing a white t-shirt under a sleeveless white jacket with jeans and insanely high platform boots that I felt I should recognize (Balenciaga?), the skunk-streaked couture client was even more spectacular-looking than in her photos.

Her scent, Daphne (out in September), is a woody concoction with hints of bitter orange, saffron, iris, patchouli and amber. "This has a lot of woods because that's what I love," she told me. "These notes represent my life. There's Spain, the Middle East, France, Ireland—also the Seventies and moss."

We engaged in the usual fragrance chatter for a bit—"juice," "notes," "noses," etc. "Did you know that most people who study to become noses drop out after the first year?" she asked me. "Noses are like musicians. Lots of people quit after the first year." When I mentioned that Josie Natori told me she thinks there's a direct correlation between having a good "nose" and having perfect pitch, she got excited. "I have perfect pitch!" she exclaimed.

Turns out that Guinness is as gaga for classical music and opera as she is about fashion. "There's nothing more exciting than listening to a piece of classical music you've never heard before," she told me, mentioning Bach, Brahms and Mahler as her favorites.

I must admit, during our conversation I found myself a bit distracted by her jewelry. She was wearing three rings on her left thumb (all other digits were naked), one of them with a diamond that had to be seven carats. She also had a stunning array of diamond bracelets on her left wrist.

Obviously, this is one rarefied creature whose feet rarely touch the ground. But as a mother of three, she does have contact with the "real world." As I learned, her son, who just finished his second year at Yale, has a hole in his New Haven bedroom apparently dug by a squirrel. "The entire house is off-kilter," she said with a laugh. "But somehow, they manage to go on."

This is an older pic of her with her son who is adorable in a non fashiony way

What does her son do? Has he ever dated Paris Hilton? If not, why not??
