Daphne Guinness

well, there's always the celebs who google themselves hoping for more praise and adoration and are shocked when they find not everyone loves them! reality sucks, i'm afraid!

^ I'd feel bad if what we were saying hurt Daphne's feelings, no matter how unintentional it was...

if she gets offended over people not liking her contact lenses she has to grow a thicker skin. it's nothing personal just a discussion of her style which is what threads like this are for. would she rather we all just accepted everything, discussion is fun!

I find it rather ironic that someone who is getting b*tt hurt about some anonymous Internet comments is lecturing about loss of sense of humour.
Also Daphne, you are definitely selling something: your image, your lifestyle and your taste, first to get opportunities to work with top fashion photographers and second to shift perfume bottles and white shirts.

said it perfectly Harumi! :flower:

Really disappointed by her infantile response. I though she was cooler and humbler than that.

my exact reaction as well.

I was just looking at her blog again, and I saw those photos of her with la chapelle in the fauna... did we ever find out what the shoot was for?

her style is phenomenal, I've never seen so much haute couture outside the paris shows. she's intriguing and it would have been interesting to see a whole episode about her life.

^ True- I was just catching up on Rachel Zoe; How perfect would Daphne be for a short TV series!!? I mean, lunches, fittings, shopping, red carpet, front row!! Beyond!! :woot:

Just wanted to report the scent 'Daphne' is now available at Barney's - here in Boston it was $140 (plus tax). Unfortunately, you can't get samples (I even checked with Comme des Garcons in NYC).

I tried it on my wrist and also on my neck and spent the afternoon in a cloud of heavy warmth that reminded me of some of the popular late eighties' fragrances, like Poison, LouLou, etc. Not the smell, just the headiness of it.

I'm no good at describing scents, but I was surprised at how warm it felt. I always imagine Daphne as the ice queen, but this thing reveals a whole different side to her. It's almost like this is the true, intimate Daphne that is only visible to those nearest and dearest to her.

The smell has been evolving continuously on me over the past six hours. It's now more exotic, I smell some incense in there, subtle but recognizable.

Definitely try it if you have a Barney's where you are.

^ That's a great description :flower:. However, too bad there are no samples.

I wonder if Holt is carrying it...? Maybe I'll go try it out.

I do have to say I love that Chanel coat. The way it sparkles even at night is very glamorous. Although I'm still not sold on the shoes.

I've never read that article before, thanks so much for posting it, MMA! I love all the pictures too. A really interesting read. :flower:

^I'm wondering that too. It must have been a while ago, because that's unimaginable now.

Daphne is one of my style icons and so I think it appropriate that my first post is in her thread!

I went to see her last year when she spoke in Harvey Nichols in Dublin. She was interviewed by Colin McDowell and there was also a Q & A session towards the end. She has a quiet voice and despite repeated requests from the audience she kept forgetting to angle the mic towards her mouth, which meant most of the audience couldn't hear a word she said! I have bat-like hearing however, so I was OK! She's quite petite and was wearing a black Gareth Pugh dress, the ubiquitous stripper heels (which is the only part of her look I dislike) and was of course dripping in diamonds. The talk wasn't massively informative and she seems quite shy and unsure of herself. I think her clothing is almost an armour to keep the world away. During the Q and A I asked her which designers she thought were worth investing in for the future, investment shopping if you will! She couldn't think of any (or just didn't want to give her secrets away) but said she'd try and think of some and I could ask her afterwards in the bar, which I thought was very sweet.

I think she's an interesting woman, obviously well educated, curious, intelligent and stylish, however like many on this thread I do get a sense of loneliness or alienation from her, which makes me a bit sad for her.

As a funny aside, I brought my friend with me to the talk and she said "I presume she's dyed her hair to look like a pint of Guinness?"! I had never thought of that before but it's so true!!!!
