Daphne Enters Vogue Territories

Daphne Guinness, who made her directorial debut during the recent Paris couture shows with the short film Phenomenology of Body, is gearing up for the ultimate close-up. The heiress and high-fashion maven–and purveyor of a recently-purchased apartment at 995 Fifth Avenue–just arrived in Manhattan for a two-day photo shoot for Italian Vogue. With Patti Wilson styling, Steven Klein is photographing Guinness for a 24-page story, clad in all couture ensembles fresh off the Paris runway–that she and best friend Carlos Souza personally hand picked, natch. The story will appear in the magazine’s September couture supplement, whose cover she will also grace.

AMERICAN Vogue could learn a few lessons from its Italian sister. Just a month after its best-selling issue that featured only black models, Italian Vogue has another buzz-making shoot featuring Daphne Guinness, the brewery heiress who spends a fortune on couture every season. Photographer Steven Klein, fresh from helming the Madonna/Britney Spears video for Madonna's tour, flew Guinness into Sands Point yesterday for a layout inspired by Tennessee Williams' "The Milk Train Does Not Stop Here Anymore." A spy said the shots of Guinness in Parisian designs are "scorching and controversial."
