Daphne Guinness

Year in Fashion 2009

Mmm Mmm Guinness
You could say she was born a household name, but Daphne Guinness was always something of a fashion-world secret…until this year. When the brewing heiress recently dyed her signature badger-stripe hairdo jet-black, it caused gasps around the blogosphere. In October, meanwhile, she opened Giles Deacon's Spring 2010 runway show in Paris, and she just landed the ad campaign for Akris' debut handbag collection, shot by her collaborator pal Steven Klein. The way Guinness worked those Alexander McQueen lobster claw platforms at the party she co-hosted for François Nars' 15x15 book, the designer should consider putting her in his campaign, too. We doubt she'd turn him down, but she has bigger things in mind, i.e., building brand Daphne. Presumably, all of this exposure isn't hurting sales of her limited-edition Comme des Garçons fragrance.

^ I was wondering about that myself- from the picture... Perhaps he has assets that we don't know about...?

Think "building brand Daphne" is a good observation. She's heading towards a more avant-garde kind of commercialism. If she's enjoying it I think that's great. She has changed her style, become more aware of it, as we've all noticed, but I think a true style icon to me, will always keep me guessing and take risks. I may not agree with all her choices but at least she makes changes. Brand Daphne is on the edge and I admire her.

^ I am just hoping Brand Daphne is not going to become like Brand Isabelle Blow...

This thread is not meant for discussion regarding Daphne's son's choices in clothing so please stay on topic. Any further posts will be removed.

Simon Doonan on anchorwomen: “A lot of women don’t have the courage to look like Daphne Guinness. Diane Sawyer is an achievable goal for them.” Yes, we’ve always seen those ladies as two sides of the same coin. [WWD]

Blasberg's Best of 2009 (Part I)

Kanye West and Daphne Guinness

This is my first picture from 2009: Two of my favorite fashion fans, who had quite an impressive 2009. Kanye upped his fashion cred with a Louis Vuitton collaboration (but downed his popularity when he bullied my beloved Taylor Swift), whereas Ms. Guinness worked everything from freaky-deaky shoes by Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen to white contact lenses.

^ Kayne is a disgrace... And I'm sure for Daphne, Diane Sawyer is just like looking in a mirror...

i dunno, after that Zahm guy with her in all of her pics recently , Kanye looks like fresh flowers in the morning. :)

^ True...He holds a special place in my personal pantheon of morons, though...after the disgusting Taylor Swift episode- she is maybe one of the only really nice people in showbiz, and he had to do that... If I was at a party and he walked in, I'd leave, and make sure everybody knew why, too...

:woot::lol:
he's just one of the most narcissistic ppl in the whole planet, i really think he can't help himself. i'm in no way condoning his behavior towards taylor, but i think there are far bigger ****oles in the biz. zahm guy, for example...:innocent:

anyway, i like that b/w pic with kanye, it reminds me of old daphne. :flower:

But Boomer, I never felt Issy was branded!

She's one of my absolute favourites, because of her very personal way of dressing, and her rather tortured, but always quite private and quiet way of life.

I never felt that Issy sold out to commercialisation or "sold" herself in the way Daphne did/is doing tbh. She used her money/influence/image to promote younger undiscovered artists - like the way she supported and fostered McQueen or Treacy. Quite different imo.

^ Oh no, I didn't mean that...it's just Izzy's sad decline and end...I hate to see Daph acting so serious and weird lately... :(

maybe she should move to Brooklyn.living by the Met you must see the same rich people every day...how tiresome.I'd love to see her with roots and toting a Kelly on the subway! LOL!
