i'm watching this reality show on hgtv that has a bunch of new yorkers in it and that is DEFINITELY a bit of a new york accent darla has picked up that we noticed in her last interview. they all say "house" "back" "about" and other words with the "o" "ow" or "ah" sounds with a sort of british twang to them. they sort of draw out the center vowels. i feel so clever, i figured it out! new york must have absorbed a bit of the canadian/french accent we have up here since they're so close :]

Being from Oz I don't have a good enough ear for "American" to tell the difference. You all sound the same to me! (Actually that's not completely true, I can hear the difference you mention I just would never be able to describe it properly.)

I hope they interview her again. I spend a lot of time on the polaroid thread where I am amazed at how much better the models look without any makeup or lighting. And videos are even better again! I don't understand why but sometimes something gets lost in translation in a studio shoot. I guess in videos and polaroids they just look real.
