Design Teams

Hello everyone, I have a few more questions to ask. I've been curious about a lot of things for a while, and a lot of questions have popped up in my head. I was hoping someone could help me out. My questions are:
What exactly is a design team? What do they do? And how do designers go about finding design teams. What is the difference between how a celeb finds a design team and a real designer finding a design team?

thanks very much

welocme to tFS fashionGirl ,
a designer team is just what it says, a group of young talented mostly underpayed designers on intern that do all the job while a 'star' designer overlooks, giving general mood direction.. those designers are not being hired as a 'team', they either apply for the job or they've been 'discovered' in their schools (see graduate year shows etc)

all big companies work with design teams , there is no difference between how a celeb designer and a 'real' designer house work with their 'designer teams' they all have the same proceedure, its only the 'direction' which is makes the difference :flower:

How do they find the design teams, do they just post up the jobs at the schools, go to the school fashion shows etc... and how much does it cost to have those design teams? What else does a fashion designer need in order to run their business? This seems interesting.

Also, I have Adobe Illustrator, I was wondering how should I start using it? I don't know where to start.

thanks

they dont go out hiring a 'team', they hire individual designers and this makes a 'design team'
where do they find them? from applications, from schools & school shows, anywhere really

try and play wih your adobe, its not something special , its a creative process

Do they hire people like patternmakers, people who sew, design, stuff like that which makes up a team? If thats the case, what are manufactures for?
Also, where was this post moved to so I can to that location?

thanks

the design team consists of DESIGNERS only.
there is another team for patternmakers, another team for sample making etc

the manufacturer is the one who takes care of the orders production , following the sampling of a line

what do you mean 'moved?'

Is there instances where manufactures will 'steal' the designs and produce abit more then ordered and then sell the excesses?

well, anything can happen, but see if they 'steal' then they lose the client.. or get sued, so its not really something they normally do

Ah thanks for the info Lena. Yay coz my friend told me before that if I goto manufacturers I should only give them the sketches and not the final drawing 0_0, in case they steal the designs. He must've been had before.

there is, no doubt.

not stating for the majority but the poorer countries will always want extra pocket cash to be made isn't it? so such things happen.

and maybe that's why you see almost identical piece selling off a dirt price on the street.

and there are cases whereby designers from your local store or country buy ready-made pieces from other countries and claimed that they designed them.

Wow, I never knew that. People can be real..... So where do factories come from? Don't some designers go to factories to get their clothing made?

So if someone wants to sell an item, they will go to the manufacture to get it produced, and distributed. For instance, if I was selling from an online store. The manufacture would ship the order directly to the customer?

How does one figure out the costing of all of this, should they just call around and ask?

When I said move, I saw my post and an arrow next to it, and two dashes in the other columns, so I figured it was moved to another category.

Hey, this doesn't seem as hard as I thought would be to learn this. I guess I was just making it harder than it seems.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. :D

for wholesale, you dont buy directly from the manufacturer
you visit the designer's showroom , choose what you need, place your order, leave a deposit and the designer (or label) proceeds with giving the order to the manufacturer.
you receive your order always from the designer/label..

regarding costing, you get the fixed wholesale price from the designer/label and then multiply (usually X 3) plus VAT or whatever you have in your country..

there is a very usefull thread on "the cost of production" right here at tFS where you can find a long discussion on the pricing proceedure

btw, you are welcome, glad to be of help :flower:
