As we've learned, there's always room for an additional sultry middle-aged homemaker on Desperate Housewives, and word around town is Wisteria Lane's been looking at All My Children's Susan Lucci as a possible resident.
The New York Post reports that Lucci met up for lunch with the show's creator, Marc Cherry, to discuss a possible role for the actress after the abrupt cancellation of her soap.
Now let's just say, the news doesn't seem too far-fetched. Lucci definitely has the D.H. look down and can obviously stir up havoc in suburbia.
Alert the movers, because this story is...
MORE: With Desperate Housewives Ending, Is the Cast Getting Desperate for Work?
So false!
An ABC rep tells E! News that there's "no truth" to this story.
Sure, the last AMC airs two days before the season premiere of Housewives, so what? And yes, Lucci might have had a rendezvous with Cherry—but for all we know, they were discussing how awesome their expensive food tastes.
“Desperate Housewives,” the darkly comedic look at suburbia that quickly became one of television’s biggest hits, will end its run after eight seasons, ABC confirmed August 7.
Ending the series is “something that has weighed on my mind for quite a while now,” creator Marc Cherry said during ABC’s presentations at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour at The Beverly Hilton.
Because I have been working in television for 23 years, I’m also very aware of people overstaying their welcome, shows that have kind of gone on too long, people just forget about them and they drift away to nothing and then they’re unceremoniously booted off,” Cherry said. “I didn’t want that to happen to ‘Desperate Housewives’… I wanted to go out in the classiest way possible.”
“Desperate Housewives” was the 23rd most-watched show on the five major broadcast networks during the 2010-2011 season, averaging 11.85 million viewers, according to live-plus-same-day figures compiled by The Nielsen Co.
ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee called the show “iconic.” “We are so proud of it,” Lee said. “It’s a really cool take. It’s moved me every time I saw it. I just wanted to make sure that this show, that sort of put this network on the map—certainly the new brand of this network—had its victory lap.”
“Desperate Housewives” was the fourth most-watched series in each of its first two seasons. It won Golden Globe awards as television’s best comedy or musical series in 2005 and 2006, and an Emmy award nomination as television’s best comedy in 2005.
Felicity Huffman won the Emmy as outstanding lead actress in a comedy series in 2005. The original cast also included Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan.
“The only thing harder than creating a hit show is knowing when to end it, especially when you’ve got one of the most amazing casts in the history of television, continuing to give amazing performances,” Cherry said.
He began informing cast members that this season would be the last and had spoken with more than half of them before making the accouncement.
“It was bittersweet and lovely because the women knew that it was a possibility, but they didn’t know, so there was a touch of shock, but not completely,” Cherry said.
“With everyone I spoke to, it was just like ‘Wow, look what we’ve done together.’
People said some very lovely things to me about how I changed their lives or and careers and I said it right back to them because of what they’ve done as a group of people has been amazing.”
Deadline.com reports that Parker will play Jane, the new love interest of Tom Scavo (Doug Savant).
Ferrer will play Andre Zeller, an artist who teaches Susan (Teri Hatcher) on her college course.
The final series of Desperate Housewives will premiere in the US in September and later in the new TV season on RTÉ Two.
Susan Mayer is going back to school in the new season of "Desperate Housewives", and Miguel Ferrer will be her teacher. The Dr. Garret Macy depicter on "Crossing Jordan" has been booked to take a recurring role of Andre Zeller, "a renowned and temperamental contemporary artist who is teaching a course at the local college."
His character is additionally said to be very demanding of his students, including Susan who is a part-time illustrator. An insider tells TVLine, "He clashes with Susan when she goes back to art school."
While Ferrer has landed a role on the final season of the ABC show, Susan Lucci may not join the cast ensemble as it was reported. The network has denied that creator Marc Cherry is discussing a possible role for "All My Children" star, with its representative saying there's "no truth" to this story.
"Desperate Housewives" will end its run with the upcoming eighth season which will debut on Sunday, September 25 at 9 P.M.
At the end of last season, we saw the marriage of Desperate Housewives‘ couple, Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant) crumble into pieces. The couple will enter the series’ eighth and final season as a separated couple on their way to divorce. Executive producer Bob Daily confirmed that both will be seen dating new people.
The series is on the lookout for a fortysomething actress to play the recurring role of Jane, Tom’s new girlfriend, who will prove a threat to Lynette. Jane also has a hot daughter named Chloe who is described as a hard-bodied yoga instructor in her early twenties. Either Tom or one of Tom and Lynette’s ginger sons is going to take an interest in this young lady.
The couple are not the only ones who will be looking for new love. Renee Perry (Vanessa Williams) will meet Ben Faulkner (Charles Mesure), a land developer in the September 25 season premiere. “I play a real estate developer,” says Mesure, who previously romanced Elizabeth Mitchell on V, Maggie Grace on Lost and Jill Hennessy on Crossing Jordan.
“I play a guy named Ben Faulkner who is a real estate developer. He’s enormously wealthy and just moved into a beautiful house on Wisteria Lane. He’s a self-made man who came from the mean streets of Sydney and has developed a bit of a ruthless streak. How that manifests I don’t know,” says Mesure. “ I have no idea by the few scenes I’ve played so far. At the moment he seems like a really nice guy. He’s a genial new neighbor in Wisteria Lane. He moves in and catches the eye of all the ladies in the neighborhood and [Renee] takes a special interest,” he added.
