I love his music! I love "Carmensita" and if you are on a tropical vacation or anything, definetly check that song out. Also I love the Samba Vexillographica song. He is so innovative and original. He is really funny too, check out Little Boys or the Carmensita video to get it. It sad that musicians like him get overlooked a lot while "singers" like Jessica Simpson or Miley Cyrus get so much success and fame.
I've known of Devendra for quite some time, and he occasionally comes on while I'm listening to Last.fm, however, I paid little attention until coming across the continuing collaborative series of photos of Devendra by Neil Krug. I really like his style, he's a rather intriguing guy. And the dude can conjure up some good imagery and metaphors (having seen an interview with him), and as a poetic soul, that's something I always appreciate.
Here's a few of my favorite photographs Neil Krug has done of him, you can see the entire series so far here.
Here's an interview with him, I briefly looked through this whole thread and didn't see it, least don't think I did, unless it was just linked and I missed, sorry if this is a repost.
I like his advice to "just grow your hair"...my hair has grown down to my hips, and I must say, I rather like it when people just let their hair go!
His new album "Mala" came out today. I'm unsure about it (after 1 listen through -- too early to tell), the two singles that came from it "Never Seen Such Good Things" and "Fur Hildegard von Bingen" seem like the best two tracks on the album. Maybe they gave me too high of expectations. I will keep spinning. Anyone listened? Thoughts?
