Those b&w shots are freaking amazing and she should have booked alot more shows by now. Designers must be crazy not to want her walk in their clothes on the runway! Happy she's getting editorial work though.

Deondra forrest

thankyou for find that thread sad to say deondra is a model because she is beautiful but being that fashion is not the way it use to be all of the albino modelsare only models because they are a muse to peoples attention if they were not albino I don't think it wouldbe this easy forthem i think it sucks because I love all of them and the things people think of them in africa by the way deondra looks like lora stone

^ I see what you mean, Diandra probably wouldn't get ~as~ much attention if she was just a woman of color. But her features alone are stunning so I don't think it would be that hard for her to get sign to a agency. Whether the agency promotes her well is another question. Any model can get sign but many models I know don't get enough attention because their agency isn't promoting them enough. Elite seems to want her to become the next Albino (if not first. I'm not sure) supermodel, and if they keep introducing her to famous designers, runway bookers and photographers I know she can really go places.

simply lovely

Iyeah you are right about the agency thing but to be honest female models alwyas get more and about her becomming the first albino model is impossible because it's already been put outh thier that she is the second because connie chiu was the first don't you think connie ciu would be mad if she found that out because I am pretty sure she worked hard for that spot in making albino models be seen on the earth or in fashion and the pic for U Mag i do not like it I hate her with dark hair she is to pretty to be dark I lover when she is shot more like the Dior way or Jean Paul Gaultier look not this thing above she looks like a Gap campaign I see her in Paris for so many thing sbut this cover is not one of them I love dondra she and the other albino's will storm the runways of paris

simplylovely2

Also simply lovely I don't think of her as a supermodel because she is skinny I think supermodels are like giselle you know the video vixen type deondra is more of an Agnyss kind of a model more editorial I saw her on runway I wish she would have done better she lloks nervous but trust that will all change

#161

Model of the Moment: Diandra Forrest

One new model that is causing a lot of tongues to wag on message boards is Diandra Forrest. Discovered by Shameer Kahn who said of her:

It was a couple of months ago when I first met Diandra. She was walking down 34th street and I took one look at her and was like "Wow... That girl is beautiful!" She was moving soooo fast and I was not going to let this one slip by! So I finally caught up with her and spoke to her about modeling and she was very interested. We met up a lot of times after that and then I started to take pictures of her as often as we can. There was something specific that I wanted to do with her because I knew she was a special girl and we both worked towards achieving that. I finally presented her to agencies when she was ready to be revealed, and it was such a pleasure for me to finally share this precious diamond that I have been keeping under the radar. I am proud to say that Diandra is now signed to Elite.

There's a certain "ick" factor to what he says there, at least in my reading. I especially don't like the part where he speaks of her being "revealed" to agencies like she's some exotic bird.

Generally speaking, the depiction of albinos in the media hasn't been very positive. Chances are that if a movie has an albino character, that person is usually the bad guy or something not quite human and witchy.

This is not to say that the woman is not striking. She has truly beautiful features that have nothing to do with her skin color. If she were brown skinned and this beautiful, I wonder if Kahn would have walked right by her without a second glance.

That said, I think she photographs beautifully and I sincerely hope that she's just not used as this season's latest runway gimmick next season. I hope that her presence will change, if even just a little bit, the average person's perception of albinism and beauty. Most of all my hope for her is that she gets to work with designers and photographers that will see her for more than just an "interesting contrast shot" and book her because she's a lovely model and not just to exploit her looks in the same manner that some very dark skinned black models have been exploited.
