I have a very relaxed internship with a certain fashion designer, since I'm only 16 and in high school and she even said that we could make a schedule that fit around my life.
However, I was suppose to begin next Saturday and confirm it a week in advance, but I've become extremely ill, so I emailed her a week in advance and told her I could not start that day because I'm too sick, and that in late February and March and April I will definitely be available and that I was so sorry for not telling her sooner because I expected to have gotten better by next Saturday but I'm still not...
I feel sort of bad...she's already very relaxed with scheduling with me and I cannot even start on the right day, but I really am sick.
Is this understandable? I don't think sick interns are that fun...but I'm rather paranoid and I hope I can still intern in the near future =(. It's so hard finding a high school internship like this, and I really want to do a good job.

You can't help being ill...have you got a response from her?

I don't think you have screwed up, it sounds like you acted responsibly by letting her know, try not to worry hunny :flower:

I personally would've gone unless I was crippilingly ill (or had the flu etc) just to show her how important it is, even to go for one day. But I do think you handled it well.

Actually, I do have the stomach flu and the remnants of an eight week cold. When I interviewed with her in December, I had just received my cold and was wheezing (asthma) and coughing all over the place. I don't want to appear sickly again, or prolong my sickness by the 8 hour work day.
Luckily, she JUST emailed me back and told me that she had changed her plans and is in NYC anyways, so I wouldn't be able to intern with her next week anyways. Thank goodness! Hopefully these extra days will help me.
Thank you for the replies! I was so frightened that I would seem flaky even though I really don't mean it =(...I wouldn't want her to think that I wasn't coming because of a 'date' or something most people would associate teenagers with.

Thats happened to me except it was a job interview.Im glad everything worked out!
