Dior Men Pre-Fall 2023 Cairo

what is this? it's just a parade of merchandise. the way he had to go to cairo just to detract from how bad the clothes are LOL

anyways, this is the only egyptian collection we acknowledge:

He is slowly becoming into the "male Mary Grace" version with every new collection...
Agreed.

There’s definitely good seperates, but the styling hurts it. And there’s definitely bad seperates, but the styling helps it. And it’s all anchored by really, really, really ugly shoes. Add this to their seasonal “inspirations”…they’re one & the same.

I hate all things LV, but now I’m thinking his stuff there was better…probably.

This collection is decent enough for a Lookbook not an entire show in a foreign country.

Again when you're doing a show, especially one that requires this many resources please put more effort present something other than just a parade of merchandise.

The cinematography is weak, YSL utilizes the dessert environment better. Too many wide shots, and not enough shots for the clothes.

The collection looks like a mixture of Virgil and KVA. The styling is weird, too much layering. Some of the outerwear could be executed better, they look like he just drapes a blanket on the models and calls it a day.

It used to be Karl and Nicolas know how to send out collections that utilize the best of destination shows. Now it's only Nicolas.

Maybe this is a good mentality preparation for another parade of mediocrity from Chanel in Senegal next Monday.

In these sad lesser days, Nicolas is the GOAT (never using that term again) of modern high fashion.

I was so excited about this but it was boring as hell. He literally just took Dior streetwear to Egypt and didnt incorporate anything local. At least when Dior went to Morocco the show was nice. These new desaigners lack the showmanship of the likes of Karl who knew how to pay homage to every destination. Nowadays its all about the hype of the location and nothing more. I was excited about Chanel in Senegal but now it seems like its going to be a repetitive snoozefest like their latest show in Miami. Jacquemus may be an over hyped designer but he does at least know how to utilize his locations.

Someone's been watching a little too much Dune again....

I think that's what the problem is: without the pyramids as the background and the hype of a new location and the stars that came to visit, this is nothing new and nothing more than another collection of soulless merchandise. It is sad because they could have incorporated some local elements like artists or patterns or material from Egypt.

Well the clothes sucked, there's no two ways about it. Most of it looked like costumes from low low budget sci-fi film and in other parts it was looking a little too much like it was trying to be Ghesquiere with that whole futurist aesthetic.

The light show at the end of this was so tacky and cringe, like one of those provincial carnivals LOL.

Also it has to be said: Kim Jones is a terrible colourist. Not once have I seen a collection of his where the colours have been curated or put together in a convincing and interesting way. The way he does it always looks very random and amateurish.

The collection is disgusting as usual.
The styling hurts my eyes and brain.
Only happy for every model that they got a paid trip to Egypt. They deserve it for wearing such trash.

He really is the spitting epitome of equal parts blandness, mediocrity and generic. It’s all so dead, there’s no emotions/reactions worthy of conjuring. I LOL when he said in some interview that he’s always watching everything and everyone to find inspiration— and yet, everything he churns out is so processed, so corporate-by-the-numbers, so soulless, from styling, to merch, to presentation, to casting. Good for him for consistently being so dead boring and still ascend so high in the industry-- I'll give him that.

The corporations can throw all the millions in stunt-casting, celeb-collabs, show production and locations, and it all fails in generating the remotest hint of richness, creative vision, and any trace of luxury in this person’s designs. Everything just ends up looking like the junior boys section of a midrange department store.

...Meanwhile, a talent like Oliver Theyskens cobbles together an offering with very limited resources, a handful of assistants, shows his collection in an old, moody hallway, and everything looks magical, rich and a thousand and one nights worth of worldbuilding.

There's a lot "borrowed" from other designers : demi-skirts over trousers from Slimane, motocross from Ghesquière, flou-fluid and dust-grey like Lemaire, outerwear and clashing yellows and orange like Nichanian, prints like Dries, and so much more. So I can't really hate the separates.
As a collection, the styling (beekeepers nets and boots) is atrocious.
As a desert show, YSL and Jacquemus did them better.

EDIT; and I forgot the obvious, the helmets from Balenciaga. Kim has no idea of his own and it's probably for the best.
