Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Haute Couture F/W 2025.26 Rome | the Fashion Spot

Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Haute Couture F/W 2025.26 Rome

Beautiful Location!
I couldn’t watch the whole thing. Their shows aren’t that thrilling but the midi length were beautiful and looked fashion. The rest was pure costume, excess for no reason.

While it looked like a Dolce & Gabbana collection, it looked so unoriginal…

Very formulaic as usual, few years ago we had the Piazza San Marco Venice embroidered prints, this year we have Pantheon, Coliseum and gladiator golden plastrons...
A parade of a roman inspired party costumes, I know this kind of proposition got a market but this looks more customey than Schiaparelli.
I also wish they would ditch the grand presentation with the figurants fully dressed in costumes, it's very tacky and it's giving regional country fair.

Rome is stunning and a perfect place for this collection, although this collection is too simple yet baroque for my taste. They’ve been doing Greco-Roman collections since 2021, do they have an original theme anymore? convince me why should I buy a simple summery Dolce & Gabbana dress for 3k when I can find the exact same model for 200 CHF at my local store. Also the jackets seem to outshine the dresses which doesn’t really help their case.

LOL here we go again, the menswear

Cardinals lurking at hunky altar boys near the Vatican, in parodies of ceremonial clothes ? What are they thinking ?
If people are upset about Prada's indian sandals, the Catholic church has every right to be upset about this show too..;

Some of the menswear pieces/looks are exquisite and I would love to own them. Is it a bit costumey ? Sure ! But some of these pieces are so potent, you can put on some jeans and a t-shirt et voilà. It's actually nearer to the level of excess and opulence I expect at Tom Ford, but different. I'd have so much of this in my wardrobe, seriously !! Love it.

The menswear is less customey than the womenswear in my opinion...those golden plastrons and antique roman landmarks prints on evening gowns looked more customey than Lallo's Valentino.
Even the venue for the menswear was much better than the female counterpart...Foro Romano is basically a bunch of ancient ruins with not that great visual impact. If you wanna do grandeur in Rome you opt for Spanish steps, Piazza Navona, Altare della Patria, Coliseum...most of these locations were already booked at least once for fashion shows so I guess they wanted to do something different to avoid comparison with competitors.
Again, I wish the visual performance / show was more streamlined without the figurants fully dressed in costumes, the beginning of the show with the cardinals wandering over the bride felt like a rejected scene from Conclave.
Dolce & Gabbana are the proof that it is not actually that easy to design a couture collection inspired by ancient roman / greek looking relevant and not feeling like a parade of theatre costumes.

As expected, Alta Sartoria did not get well with the Monsignori:

Fashion: “With its profusion of crosses and pseudo-ecclesiastical clothing, Dolce & Gabbana's latest fashion show mocks Christianity.”

Tell me if you need extracts or translations, Le Monde is quite complicated, fun fact the theologian author is also a fashion writer.

The number of very expensive weddings where people are wearing Dolce & Gabbana means they're performing for a certain audience who likes what they see - and I'm not even talking Lauren Sánchez Bezos, these weddings have been a thing for a while.

All my issues of Tatler are stuffed away in a drawer, but I seem to remember at least one article a year about a wedding somewhere in the world where nearly everyone attending seems to be dressed in Dolce & Gabbana.

So these Alta Moda shows perform a function, but they're more about significance within a certain social circle than relevance to the general world of fashion.
