Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2023.24 : Maya Jama & Kit Butler by Steven Meisel

Upscale ZOO or Maxim Magazine, maybe even a bit of FHM. Mind you that is very British in a way if they were going for an intentional glamour model look.

Lips are very blow up dollish with the finger being that far into in her mouth, which I wouldn have minded if they committed to the Bourdin/Wangenheim aspect way more. It is the first thing I go to with my eyes so it does excuse me from the terrible outfit for a couple of seconds.

I was just coming here to post this myself, having just stood in Tesco checking out the new issue of British Vogue and my jaw hitting the floor upon seeing this. Thanks a million @Zorka for saving me the embarrassment of sharing a horrendous quick iPhone snapshot.

Massively into this! Pretty major for Maya Jama to have scored a Dolce & Gabbana campaign too, even more so to have been photographed by Steven Meisel - again. The red hair immediately transported me back to Vogue Italia's May 2008 cover story with Eva Mendes. I cannot wait, I repeat... cannot wait for more!

Awww.... Thank YOU, my love! ❤️

(For being such a guidance and inspiration trough all these years, but most importantly - for you being you!)

According to the same source, Steven Meisel also shot the men's campaign in a similar setting.

Imagine paying for the most expensive team in industry and this is what you get. It's hilarious how there are still clients willing to spend so much on something that a local grazia photographer or even a student could do.

The first picture even looked promising, but everything got worse, these poses are weird and some of Maya's expressions are not good!

Who on earth lied to them and told them to continue doing what they were doing on those chairs

this is bad.
those poses, that chair. all very lacking.

Steven, dear…

I’m not mad at Mayas photos, but Kits are terrible.

Is this the bland ugly sister of that Balenciaga campaign with Jennifer Connelly falling off the couch?

Looks like a cheap Giampaolo Sgura editorial.

The post production in this campaign is atrocious…

But the real question here is…WHO STYLED IT?
I wonder if Edward is doing a Carine now…

Oh! Jennifer Connelly doing contorsions on fancy chairs! That was a beautifully composed campaign. The set elevated even more the clothes.

I'm not convinced by Kit in this. The red hair is growing on me though.
Me neither! I'm usually a fan of Kit, but here the combination of [tacky] clothes, the facial hair and the contrived poses give me the impression of a boy (who just discovered he can grow facial hair) playing dress up. I think a more mature and sexy model like David Gandy or Jon Kortajarena could have been better suited to this, while still giving a nudge and wink to the camp nature of the clothes and the over the top chair poses. I think Maya looks fine, all things considered. The main culprit of the cheapness of her images is really due to the clothes. Her hair and makeup look okay to me.

Still, this whole campaign screams" BUDGET CONSTRAINTS". I mean really, why that chair and that chair only?! The reflective nature of it makes it look plastic-wrapped (perhaps an ode to Italian grandmothers lol?) and after a couple of images the whole thing starts looking like an ANTM challenge with them straining to come up with different poses on that damn chair.

If they insist on these nostalgia-fuelled collaborations, why not bring Steven Klein back? His campaigns for the brand in the 2000s are among their best and most controversial and he knows how to up the sex appeal and tackiness factor in a fun way.
