Dooney & Bourke Stars

ick! i've already typed this in some other thread, but i was one of those teen vogue it girls that got chosen to go over to italy to do the "it" bag design. peter dooney, the head of the company is some alchohalic old man who has the worst man-minded designs. he sent us into dior and a bunch of other stores and then showed us prototypes "inspired" by designer bags. his designers have no talent. the guy that is in charge of overseas manufacturing has a chinese wife, that is solely one of those business marriages and he was hitting on two of the girls on the trip. three other girls got totally wasted because they took advantage of the underage drinking factor, and i ended up having my mom call the editors at teen vogue to let them know what was really going on. it was sleezy and a total eye-opener....but on the good side, i got a bunch of free bags (which i immediately hawked on ebay), a good paying commision for the company and i requested a dooney nile bag, because it was one of the only ones i actually liked. and italy was gorgeous! so there were definate good sides, and definate bad sides....i was shocked that they allowed all the stuff that went on to happen considering they were supposed to be getting a good, positive "design oriented" story to put in their magazine. im just glad i have a fairly level head on my shoulders and just stood back and watched all this sh*t happen....rather than get involved in all of the drama and boozing.

At my high school unfortunatly it is a rainbow of every kind/color/size of dooney and bourke imaginable. I got one about 2 years ago. It was when they multi-color DB came out it was the doctor bag and i gave it to my little sister(11) bc i figured shed be much more happier with it. And oh boy she is. I do have one dooney and bourke which i dont carry very often but i still love it.

How interesting! I remember the Teen Vogue article about the "it" bag and the team of girls sent to Italy... Congrats!
Sucks that the Dooney guys were so shady :yuk:

yah, i was the brunette that wasn't smiling in any of the pics... but i DID get some sweet prada boots and got to go to all of the outlets and stuff. and i took some gorgeous black and white pics of milan and florence. so it had its good sides as well. i will definately have to go back to italy on my own terms as i fell in love with everything there! the food is SO good!!!!! and the shopping and hot italian guys! oh baby!

I'm sorry that the background of the company is shady. I'm pretty surprised; you hear all about the history of LV bags, and hardly anything about DB.
Anyhow, I am over 30 and love the star line; but I suspect that it's because I'm not very conservative in my dress anyhow since I am in the fine arts dept. :) I guess that it all depends on your taste in handbags.

Im not a big fan of the stars, hearts or Doodle lines, but I do own an It bag that I absolutely love - they're adorable for Spring..

Yes, I agree, and you know what looks really cute are all the it/stars/hearts bags in white. I don't care for Doodle or Tartan especially, but I have a feeling I may purchase a white bag, because it probably wouldn't get dirty anything like that.

i dont like the "it" bags. they gave us pink ones to sport around in in italy and the lil' bugger dug into my shoulder REALLY bad! luckily i brought my LAMB bag along at the time, and had that with me :) that's one thing i really dislike about their designs....besides some of the horrible color pallettes of the younger bags, the designs make them terribly uncomfortable to hold and carry.

It's a little too colorful for my taste. It would look a lot better if the stars were only one or two colors.

Whatever happened to the Gwen Stefani's LAMB line of bags? I was looking for those. Are they discontinued? Is she still making handbags?

the original ones from lesportsac have been discontinued for a long time. i had one of the first ones, the classic hobo with the black and white lamb print and a teak duffle....fantastic quality. supposedly, since those did so well, she was supposed to do an accessory line follow up with her L.A.M.B. clothing line and the bags were supposed be be more high end like $600-$1000, but with all the stuff going on with her solo tour and then her pregnancy, i think it got put on hold. i hope she still does one though, like in leather! that'd be awesome!!
