Do you like them or not, on girls? Opinions please. :flower:

i love them on anyone as long as they are done well. i've seen people with messy not looked after dreads and it makes me cringe:doh:

Just a question, what's the main difference btwn not good dreads and great dreads? Actually, how are great dreads supposed to look like?

Some dreads work really well on girls, but I've always wondered about how much they smell? coming from a girl who's a bit obsessive compulsive about washing her hair.

dreads have to be looked after i.e. keep redoing the roots where new hair has grown in some people just dont do this and therefore the dreads look messy compared to ones that have been looked after. i'l try find some pictures to show what i mean:flower:

heres some pictures of dread looks that i like.

i couldnt find any examples of 'bad' dreads. and fab_fifties_fille i think dreads do generally tend to smell bad:sick: .

but if you dont want the smell or the comitment you could always have synthetic ones briaded or glued onto your own hair. my cousin had these in and they looked really good.

You can wash dredlocked hair just like you wash non-dreded hair, but you definitely need to use a hair-dryer to get it dry.

The only smelly hair you're going to find is on those nasty hippie kids who believe that soap is an oppression.

lol true.

I had dreads and they did never smell, but i have to say they are such a pain in the butt to keep up with. Hairwashing takes much longer, drying takes much longer, redoing the roots is terribly achy and it's sooo bad for your scalp.

My head really felt utterly .. relieved after i detangled them ^_^ (gladly they weren't felted yet)

Personally i think they can look really cute and great, but then again you really look slobby quickly.

I, for myself, am done with dreads, that was something i left behind along with my hey-i'm-15-and-rebellious-stage ;)

I like them, yes. Although I wouldn't get them done myself, I've seen them looking great.

I live in the dreadlock capital of the US. I swear to god, at least 15% of the Arcata, CA population has dreads. And I've lived in Seattle, SF, Berkeley, all the "dready" places. And they're mostly bad dreads.

From my experience, dreads either smell like BO funk, garlic/tumeric/other hippie cooking smells or tea tree oil. The last is by far the most pleasant.

They can look good, but they sure can stink.

:judge:

i don't know about european/japanese people's dreads - i never liked them in straight hair. they really only look good in kinky, african hair types, and they have to be separated and well-groomed. it is definitely a high maintanence but beautiful style, with a lot of cultural meaning.

i've 'locked my hair several times in my life and it never, never stank. i don't know what kind of people you are hanging around with but if their hair stinks, they have a personal problem - nothing to do with the dreads. please don't overgeneralize, at least not in public.

I really dont like em on girls especially... It just doesnt do well on girls I find.

your brother is gorgeous....what a beautiful smile

Thanks adore!!

For some its not a hairsylte , but a natural lifestyle. For me personally I would never lock me hair- (but I went natural for awhile), because it takes lots of maintainence ( another reason my hair is no longer natural). LOTS!!!!

And my brothers hair has never smelled. He knows better :flower: - weve had good home training. Plus his wife would wouldn't allow it:lol:

Remember when Lenny Kravitz wore locks:heart:

dreads can look very neat IF the person that wears them keeps them up. They require alot of care and are more than a hairstyle really. People shouldn't get them for "trendy" purposes.

I wouldn't get dreads because I don't like the shave your whole head to get rid of them part lol. But I think they look nice on alot of people when they're neat and especially when people add a little color to them. I see dreads all the time because many people at my school wear them.

I never smelled stank dreads

one of my closest friends is a professional mountain boarder, and she plans on getting dreads to fit in with that whole crowd. i would never do it personally. is it bad for your hair?
