Dree Hemingway

Summertime is all about the next-best place to be. And this summer it’s the Gates. Already there have been quite a few events, but the newest party—hosted by Andrew Bevan of Teen Vogue—is set to be the must-attend event. Each week he’ll invite a different friend to join him as DJ for the night, providing a mid-week celebration! Next Wednesday, July 8, Dree Hemingway will take her turn in the booth. You know Modelinia will be there, Tweeting all the deets!

^yeah, nothing of unique about her face ... what's her surname then?

^Oh thanks, not a good surname, better having Hemingway ... from what I've been seeing of her, I would not call her a model, but I dunno, I'd say that she's a girl that's quite pretty, has a nice sense of style & likes to dress up.

^Yes Hemingway sure gets everyones attention.

It's kind of embarrassing that she uses the Hemingway name. Especially when Earnest was one on the most talented writers in history and she is just a girl-about-town. I think she is gorgeous and very stylish, but really the name game is an obvious maneuver.

^yeah, sort of celeb, just don't get how she ascended to what she's right now. She has almost nothing of modeling work but she always gets print work for major mags & runway work for major HF brands.

^Her name did it! When she modelled by her real name nothing happened, then went to Hemingway and did much better.

^well then it's funny, how can a name make a person more popular. Well sure she did much better, but what she does in modeling is absolutely nothing ... still can't get how can a simple model can ascend to this sort of celeb status. Does anyone knows her age, I'd like to know but doesn't even has a profile on nymag & models.com don't have that on her profile.

I don't understand why people are still faulting her for using her own lineage to her advantage. If we didn't live in a society where a mother's maiden name was often erased by marriage, this wouldn't even be an issue. Ernest Hemingway was her great grandfather, not some obscure relative four times removed. I think that we'd be hard pressed to find many people who would prefer having the last name "Crisman" over "Hemingway" and I certainly don't feel like we should fault her for it.

^ I agree, thank you very much. She is just as much related to her Crisman half as she is her Hemingway half, and moreover she is entitled to take any name she desires, even if doesn't follow societal standards.

I see your point, but I don't think that this has anything to do with social standards...
Rather notoriety.
Many people (me included) associate the name Hemingway with the greatest writer that ever lived. Those are big shoes to fill!

^That was actually the first thought that came to my mind when I read her name.

My point wasn't really a critique of society and its impositions, just that I don't really see a problem with using a family name if it's going to further your career and doesn't cause harm to anyone. :flower:
