French contemporary label Each x Other’s first freestanding men’s wear collection was a veritable fashion-meets-art experience, with three artists’ works displayed in a gallery-like space, where models sported each one’s fashion creations.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s sartorial contribution had his signature primary colors and included a tuxedo and black leather biker jacket festooned with graffiti (taken directly from a wall he’d decorated in St. Barths). He also had on show a series of papier mâché heads and clocks (sans numbers).

“Around ’82 I started collaborating with many artists – Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman and Keith Haring. When I started, it was like a shock and scandal,” said de Castelbajac. “I’ve always been on the one hand an artist and on the other hand a designer. Jenny [Mannerheim] and Ilan [Delouis, Each x Other’s founders] are like my spiritual sons – they have crystalized art as wearable things. Art … is a new armor.”

Robert Montgomery contributed a textural sculpture and tuxedos, sweatshirts and shirts with sayings such as “We are not your servants anymore,” while Blair Chivers’ mirror work was literally present and reflected in his fashion, including aluminum leather jackets.

The overriding idea for every Each x Other men’s collection is to offer a wardrobe for today’s man, and it took graphics to a whole new level.

The Artists Behind Each x Other’s First Stand-Alone Menswear Collection
By Demet Muftuoglu Eseli
During the Paris men’s Spring 2016 shows, Each x Other presented its debut stand-alone menswear collection, in which it examined the fundamental DNA of the brand through the geometry of words, primary colors, and light. Classic wardrobe essentials were reimagined with two brilliant artists, Robert Montgomery and Blair Chivers. London-based poet and contemporary artist Montgomery developed several exclusive artworks for the collection, including a biker patch with the collection’s title, a new layered text application, and the statement T-shirt “We are not your servants anymore," while Canadian conceptualist Chivers’ works travel through the pieces, utilizing the language of positive psychology, imploring us to “think of light.” Each x Other also introduced a new collaboration with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

The runway set, reminiscent of an art gallery, reflected the soul of the brand as light and relaxed silhouettes passed by alongside soft, luxurious fabrications with a certain sartorial nonchalance.

Congratulations to the lovely Jenny Mannerheim, Ilan Delouis, and the entire Each x Other family!.
