Ilan Chetrite tapped into the trend for soft tailoring with his collection for Sandro, which worked a high-waist look with short fitted jackets worn over loose, cropped pants and stiff ankle boots.
The designer was inspired by icons of cool such as Chet Baker and John Lurie. “I like the fact that these characters are controversial,” he said at the presentation.
Chetrite was not afraid to explore a literal retro look, including a Donnie Brasco-style brown suede jacket matched with a striped shirt and gray creased pants. But the more fluid items, like oversize coats and loose-crotch trousers, best captured the effortless elegance of his role models.
