Meisel's take on Blade Runner is the best.

Doesn't his brain library just consist of all fashion publications since the 1920s or something like that? We have a little attempt at that in various threads at tFS as you know, the vintage mag forum etc. It seems really difficult to attempt to get all his references into one thread. They are countless.

Or do you mean when you can take one of his shots and point directly to the reference?

Okay let me try if I get what you mean

This campaign reminds me of these John Rawlings photographs from the late 1950s

I agree with prehuman, Meisel was clearly influenced by Rawling's work for this ad.

exactly.

what khyrk did is what this thread is meant for.

it would be a library of Meisel's own library.

i think it's interesting ...

but perhaps it's not worthing a thread.

i d k !

I think it's very interesting...anyway here's some similarities I found between Meisel's work and Rawlings having looked through his thread, I'm probably wrong but it's worth seeing if people agree or not...

I'll try and do the obvious easy references from that Natalia ed in Vogue US May next...

It looks like he really is very influenced by Rawlings. Other people in here call it plagiarism. What are your thoughts? ^_^

Bear in mind that this ed is a tribute to models of older generations and the intention was to mimic some of their famous shots...I couldn't find all but thought it would be interesting to add those that I did

I think when Grace works with him she comes up with specific references...by watching 'The September Issue' I assume. So surely it's a collaboration between two or more minds sometimes

Steven Meisel is known for having a big "brain visual library" ...
As he's one of the most important fashion photographer of the late 20th century, I think it would be interesting to collect here (for future history of fashion students) the amount of his references ..........

Perhaps this thread would merge with another TFS thread, but I thought it would be very interesting to focus on this particular photographer's inspirations. It would be like a sort of class .......

Non ?

What do you think ?

For the moment, it is an ephemeral thread ... I should wait for mods approval.
Steven Meisel thread merged with this ongoing thread about editorial inspirations. The mod team would prefer to keep it here. Thanks for asking!

^ok thanks.

and thanks for having talked about it with the mods.

i'm never so sure about opening a thread that have similarities with another one.

^ Nope thats certainly not you seeing the similarities between the two- although I like them quite a lot!

Does anyone know of editorials which have a dancer theme and where their inspirations came from? I've been looking for a few but I don't know where to turn.
