EXCLUSIVE: MEET EGYPT, BURBERRY’S NEW FAVOURITE GIRL AND FORMER ESTATE AGENT

Christopher Bailey’s final hurrah at Burberry was one of the hottest tickets in town this season. It goes without saying that after 17 years at the helm, the Yorkshire-born designer transformed Burberry into one of Britain’s coolest luxury labels for the digi-savvy, socially astute youthful customer base. Be it shaking off the label’s 00s “chav” image, introducing a see-now-buy-now model to casting up-and-coming talent on the runway (case in point: Cara D, way back when), hitting refresh has always been at the heart of Bailey’s Burberry.

The next-gen star to watch? Say hello to Egypt. The 18-year-old Croydon-born beauty was first scouted by Premier at her local shopping centre when she was 16, and made her LFW debut at Burberry this season (also marking her first ever modelling gig). Quite the entrance.

“I used to work as an estate agent in East Dulwich,” Egypt tells Hunger over the phone. “It was a great experience. Some prizes employees would win for hitting targets were crazy – like flat screen TVs and apple watches. With the modelling industry you’re meeting so many different people all the time and that’s the same at an estate agents. Modelling wasn’t a Plan A career, but I love it [now].”

Watch this face…

Favourite place to shop? Topshop – I love their tall range and jeans.

Style icon? Kehlani.

What does your off-duty style look like? I’m pretty casual so a big jumper, ripped jeans and a pair of converse.

Fashion Week essentials? Headphones, my Benefit foundation, Maybelline concealer and a clear lip-gloss. No matter what makeup you’ve got on, a lip gloss always makes it look nicer.

Top three tracks you’re listening too RN? Not3s, Maybel – My Lover, SZA Love Galore and Bruno Mars and Cardi B – Finesse.

Last dream you had? I’m literally so tired most nights these days I feel like I skip my dreams!

Favourite song of all time? Kehlani – Bright. It’s all about self-confidence.

One thing you could not live without? My phone.

Your happy place? My car, a grey Polo. Because it has the two things I love most in it – heating and music!
Favourite dish? Pasta and pesto.

Mariah vs Whitney? Mariah Carey. All I want for Christmas is my favourite Mariah song.

Favourite iconic fashion moment ever? When Lady Gaga wore that meat dress [in 2010]. It was so outrageous.

Your #1 goal in 2018? Travel more. I have a few places I want to go to – like the Maldives, Dubai and Greece. And Egypt, of course!

How discovered:
I was scouted in my local shopping centre, Croydon. This was two years ago.

What was your first modeling job?
Walking as an exclusive for Burberry, it was really nerve wrecking but once the adrenaline kicked in I loved it. It was like a dream!

Favorite things:
When I’m not doing castings and shoots I love to catch up with friends and spend time with family. One thing I can’t live without is my Vaseline, it has to be in my pocket everywhere I go!

What are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve really been enjoying the Migos album, they’re my fave at the moment.

Favorite movie, tv show:
My favourite movie of all time is White Chicks, but when it comes to TV I don’t really watch much of it unless it’s catching up on Hollyoaks.

Favorite designer, fragrance or beauty product:
Balmain is a brand that I just can’t get enough of, every season I love it more and more. I have two signature perfumes – Thierry Mugler’s Angel & Paco Rabanne’s Olympia.

What were you doing before modeling?
I was doing an apprenticeship in an Estate Agency. It was so different to my life now, as since being model no day is the same as the next and you never know what’s around the corner.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
I would still be an estate agent if I wasn’t modelling and in the future, I’d love to start my own lingerie line.

What’s something uncool that you love anyway?
I don’t know if it’s uncool or a guilty pleasure but I have to make sure I get my weekly catch up with Hollyoaks.

Favorite modeling experience so far?
I have so many! A few would have to be: walking the runway in London and Milan for fashion week, but also seeing myself in Vogue and Elle. They were some really surreal moments for me.

What’s the best thing about your hometown/country?
I love that there is always something to do in London. Even if I’m on the complete opposite end of London to where I’m from I still feel completely at home. I love that it’s so cosmopolitan and everyone embraces everyone’s uniqueness.

Which brand would you really love to model for?
I would really love to work with Fendi, I love how they have helped to bring bold branding back again.

Place you would love to visit:
I would love to visit the Maldives and just relax with no phone for a week.

Currently you’re obsessed with/about:
I’m currently obsessed with makeup and different ways it can be applied for different looks. I think it’s a real art and I have the utmost respect for makeup artists.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Always follow your gut instinct and only do what is right for you.
