Eley Kishimoto S/S 06 London

I'm all for cute, but this is too literal for me (rainbows, hearts, lambs next??), not to mention it looks very Jessica Ogden-ish. I might as well make a dress out of my Sanrio bedsheets. They used to do more "subtle cute", eg. prints of houses and of course, penguins. Not original either in the cutting or details. I bet though, it'll be big in Japan. ;)

i only like a few looks/prints. some of it is quite garish (which i normally don't mind) and some of it just doesn't work for me. maybe it's just the way pieces are grouped. my favorite would be the first image in post 7. i used to love eley kishimoto, but i just haven't been feeling it for the past few seasons.

zazie, i think you're right about not being original in cut. i think that's something they've always been lacking. but with good prints, i didn't used to mind.

I agree sea-of-stitches. Their strength has always been in the use of prints, especially that traditional Japanese meets manga graphic. This print flops for me because it's too kitschy, without their usual wit or unexpected juxtaposition of retro and modern.

I thought they would go in a different direction judging from their menswear collection. It's really cute and nice but you get tired of cute clothes after awhile.

I love this

so cute and those stripes....

Well, it certainly is cute, but this feels like a giant step backwards to me. Their last A/W collection showed signs of some badly-needed elegance - I took it to mean that they were growing up a bit. Guess they've been held back a year. :ermm:

I don't like it. Too much different from the old image of Eley Kishimoto in my mind. These clothes just look "noisy", like an unsophisticated variant of Moschino Cheap and Chic.:(

I've looked at their full collection, and some of the more graphic pieces are not so bad. They should look over their shoulders...at JoJo & Malou! ;) EK used to occupy the cute, bright, witty, funky print niche, but they really need to do better, as younger up-and-coming designers are doing a fresher take on this. Here's a couple of JJ&M from style.com:
