Every week, Bazaar's booking team highlights one name to note, from the industry's best-known faces to girls who are just starting out. This week, we turn our attention to Elibeidy Danis.
At only 19, Danis is being whispered about as IMG's next big thing. The Dominican has significant collaborations lined up with some of fashion's leading editors and photographers, who rave about the newcomer's catwalk and editorial potential.
Following her coveted closing slot at Burberry for her runway debut, Danis continued to charm in Milan and Paris, where her doe eyes and classic features seduced labels such as Gucci, Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Missoni, Jil Sander and Prada.
"Elibeidy has a very regal, romantic feel about her – an almost Victorian beauty," says Claire Dickens at IMG London. "Her beautiful long limbs, deer-like eyes and wild personality made her a casting-director favourite this spring/summer 2017 season."
We talk to Danis about becoming a dentist, walking for Victoria's Secret and "old-school" Leonardo DiCaprio.
How were you discovered?
"I was discovered when leaving school one day by the owner of a modelling school in the Dominican Republic. Two years later, a scout from IMG Models noticed me on Facebook and flew to my hometown to meet me. I was signed to IMG Worldwide and doing my first shows just a few months later! "
If you weren't modelling, which career would you pursue and why?
"A dentist! I love to smile and always wanted to help others feel more confident with theirs too."
What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far?
"Walking my first-ever show, Burberry, and being given the honour of closing it was a really special moment. Being a part of such wonderful shows such as Valentino, Prada and Gucci this season was also thrilling."
How do you spend your free time?
"I love sleeping and listening to music. "
Do you have any travel tips for those visiting your hometown?
"My hometown Vallejuelo is my favourite place in the Dominican Republic: try Mangu con Salami and Sancocho, which are two of my favourite foods. "
What are the two products you can't live without?
"I was given an amazing Rodin lip balm on a shoot recently, which I love, and Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer."
What is your favourite form of exercise?
"I love running. I go for a 30-minute run four days a week. It's becoming a good way to see the new cities that I am travelling to for work."
What is your dream shoot?
"I have a few! David Sims, Glen Luchford and Steven Meisel – I'd love to shoot a really special editorial or campaign with them where the sets are so extravagant and exciting. And then, further down the track for me, Victoria's Secret is an absolute dream of mine… Especially shooting in beautiful island and beach locations."
Name your five essential items you wouldn't leave the house without?
"Water, my iPhone and charger, protein bars and fruit… all in my new Paco Rabanne bag."
If you had to wear only one designer, who would it be?
"Gucci – especially their dresses!"
What kind of advice would you give to new girls to the industry?
"If you want to get something, you can, if you work hard. Everything is possible."
Is there a model's career that you admire and why?
"Naomi Campbell's. Her longevity in this business is so impressive."
Let's talk about favourites. What about…
…music? "I really like Mexican musicicans like Arjona, Mana, Sin Bandera... or Chris Brown and Tyga."
…movies? "Titanic – for old-school Leo."
…books? "I'm not so into reading… whenever I do, I fall asleep!"
…food? "Authentic Dominican food."
