Elle France March 23, 2023 : Carine Roitfeld by Brigitte Niedermair

The styling is on brand but a drab studio cover doesnt do her justice, expected a classic elle cover with motion, maybe on the streets showcasing her personal style,

My ultimate fantasy is to have Carine styled by Carlyne…
I’m not a fan of a cover but it’s really on brand as @Urban Stylin said… They even went as far as getting Tom Ford credited which is very rare for Elle.

And more than the clothes and the ed in itself, I really love the idea of having someone who started at the magazine being on the cover of the said magazine.

Streetstyle or more lively ed would have been welcomed. Still love her tho!

A bit too conservative. I wished it has been a cover with her on the beach or with a white background.
This one is too serious or drab for me.
She looks great and I'm happy to see her on the cover but it could have been much better.
The edit is cool though :)
I can't wait to read her interview !!!!!!!!!!

I'm just going to say what everyone's thinking! Her face looks very odd. I'm not referring to ageing or plastic surgery, but I've never seen her smile like that and the framing is just such an odd choice.
The preview shot is so much better than the final cover. It's so Niedermair. There's arguably more high fashion in that shot than there is on the main cover.

For a magazine editor to have reached a stage they can appear on a cover is a triumph. Who else can claim this? Anna, Carine, and Edward only imo.
I want to say it would be lovely if Carine can take over Elle France but I don't think she can work at such a pace. I'm not even sure if they can afford her? Who I won't mind at Elle France is Emmanuelle Alt.

Carine is a lovely and very capable woman but she doesn’t have the stature required to be the EIC of ELLE France.
VP was pure fashion, pure elitism and it’s a world that she knows. ELLE France has a lot more politician weight and the consequences is that they are sometimes involved in social conversations that the EIC has to defend in the medias. And that way they have a tradition of having very quote quote « formal » journalists/ writers as EIC.

But she would be a great contributor in a way that Carlyne was in VP. Brune de Margerie who used to work with her VP is now the Fashion Editor at Elle. I think Carine styled for them too an Ed with Marion Cotillard…

Emmanuelle’s aesthetic has been used and re-used…And now Saglio is a contributing at Elle. I really don’t think her aesthetic is needed for Elle. But I love what she does for Holiday, M le Monde and others…Elle would be too obvious.

This shot instantly reminded me of that Australian problematic parody person/character who uses "quiche"? Forgot their name, but very that. Edit: Ja'mie

Carine deserved better -- a cover that showed her style, beauty +++ in all its glory.

I like how the background and typography is reminiscent of Vogue Paris. It’s a nice little touch.

Aside from the remarkable concept of Carine being the cover story, it's an unremarkable issue by French Elle's standards. 120/128 pgs, depending on whether you get Paris-focused pages.
