Now that so many other titles are a disappointment, attention has shifted to French Elle, but people are expecting a lot from a woman's weekly which - to its credit - has not changed much over the years, so most of the time you'll get a mundane cover shot featuring a casual look, coverage of whatever topics happen to be in the news, plus recipe cards at the back.
Just because it occasionally puts out a fantastic cover with a proper fashion model that satisfies people's longing for the good old days does not mean French Elle is failing its purpose all the weeks that it doesn't.
Thanks to its rota of editors, French Elle bangs out fifty or so issues a year, full of written content, when other magazines can barely produce a pamphlet-sized publication ten times a year.
I'm a fan, but I don't expect fireworks every week.
