via modelinia.com's blogModel Exclusive: Emily DiDonato is the One to Watch
With two major Vogue covers on the newsstands already this month, it has never been more apparent that Emily DiDonato is the one to watch in 2014. Known already as one of the several faces of Maybelline and for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit features, the all-American beauty solidifies her top model status on the cover of Vogue Paris‘ February issue, casting a much deserved spotlight on her rising career. With the highly-anticipated 50th anniversary issue of SI Swimsuit just a few weeks away, we sought out the blue-eyed beauty to learn more about her latest fashion conquests, including her recent trip Bangkok— the site of her latest Maybelline commercial. Get to know more about fashion’s newest model obsession in the interview below:
1. 2013 was a great year for you! What were some of the most memorable moments of the past year?
2013 was an amazing year! I feel really grateful for this year and all of the great things I got to do. I would have to say shooting the cover of French Vogue was definitely the most exciting time for my career. Shooting the Miu Miu campaign and Sports Illustrated was awesome too.
2. In addition to earning a cover with Vogue Turkey, you also star on the cover of this month’s Paris Vogue. What was it like shooting your first cover with the magazine and being named in its special Top Models Issue?
Shooting the cover of Vogue Paris was so exciting. Emmanuel Alt and David Sims are both two amazing, talented people. I was so happy to be working with them. The shoot itself was very relaxed, but inside I was kind of freaking out. I was just really excited. Being on the cover of French Vogue was something I had dreamed of doing since I started modeling.
3. We also hear that you recently finished a shoot with Maybelline. What sort of beauty tips have you picked up while working with the brand?
Yes, I’ve just returned from Bangkok where we were shooting a Maybelline commercial. After doing so many cosmetic commercials, I’ve learned to always moisturize and drink plenty of water because it is so important for the skin. Maybelline’s makeup artist Charlotte Willer has taught me a lot about makeup in general, but I would say one of her funniest little tricks is to curl your lashes with a spoon. It really works!
4. What beauty trends are you looking to try in the New Year?
Off-duty, I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to makeup. For a night out, I usually just stick to what works like a smokey eye and a nude lip.
5. What are your 5 must-have beauty products?
- Maybelline Baby Lips Balm
- Maybelline Falsies Mascara
- Psssst Dry Shampoo
- Embryolisse Moisturizer
- Homeoplasmine
6. As a model, you get to travel to a lot of exotic places. What have been some of your favorite places to visit?
My favorite places I’ve traveled to would have to be New Zealand, Namibia and Turks and Caicos.
7. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue turns 50 this year. Who were some of your favorite SI Swim models growing up?
I’m super excited for SI 50 years launch! Growing up, I loved Heidi Klum and Elle McPherson. I thought they were both incredibly beautiful.
8. How do you manage to get bikini-ready?
Staying bikini-ready year round can be a challenge. It’s most important for me to eat lots of veggies and protein. When I’m traveling I try to stay in hotels with a gym so I can go for a run. I usually bring a jump rope as well and some sort of workout DVD. Just staying consistent and doing a little everyday helps.
9. What is your favorite fashion and/or accessory that you’re wearing right now?
I have a few favorite recent buys. I love rag & bone’s men’s sweaters. During the winter, I wear a lot of their knits. I also bought a men’s denim and shearling jacket from there, which I love! For accessories, I recently bought a Saint Laurent small, square, studded bag with a chain shoulder strap— perfect for going out and those more casual days.
10. What’s the one fashion and/or accessory that is missing from your wardrobe right now?
I can ever get enough of a perfect little black dress, perfect white tee’s and leather jackets. I’m always shopping for those same things.
11. Finally, what can we expect to see from you in the year to come?
This year, I hope to have another exciting one. I’m expecting a lot of travel and a busy schedule. Hopefully a bit of fun too.
