Emily DiDonato

Well she talks a bit about her career, her lifestyle, favourite music, movies (I haven't studied French in a while but got the gist of it.) and since she shot it in St. Tropez, it was around the same time she was doing press events for Acqua Di Gioia .

Emily's Glamour ed is reprinted in Vogue China July 2010

Page 112 : 'Emily Didonato, the new Armani girl opens her beauty book'

Page 113 gives me a hard time to read, since I can't open up the scan big enhough. But I can see it says :

'We've got three things in common with Didonato. Alright, two when we're not minding our looks. The American loves nature and one of her favourite movies is 'Into the wild'. Main ingredients to have a good conversation.

Reporter : You look really happy. Are you always like this or just having a good day?

Emily : (Laughs) I've had a very nice childhood. I can surround myself with great people everyday and I'm able to do anything I like everyday, so I have no reason at all to be unhappy. Being positive comes in handy as a model. Because If I'd feel sad now, I'd hardly be able to hide it.'

Reporter : What would you do, cry in a corner?

Emily : 'I want to be alone then, yes. But if it's really bad, I knock on the door of my family, my parents, brother and sister. They're staying a couple of hours driving from New York, in the midst of nature. It's so calm out there. I always realize how blessed I am when I'm there and I regain my inner balance.'

Reporter : Nature calms you?

Emily : 'Yes. I've grown up among the trees and fields. I didn't like it back then, all the camping isn't something a teenager necessarily loves in particular. I used to hang around with my brother a lot. I were kind of a tomboy actually. When I had to move because of the modeling, I started to appreciate nature more. New York is such a busy, such a hectic city. It's important to realize where I come from and not forget it.'

Reporter : Are you less happy in New York?

Emily : 'Not per se. But I can feel very lonely here, even in a crowd.'

Reporter : And can a scent change your mood?

Emily : 'Definately. Everyone has certain memories attached to certain scents. The smell of fresh (I don't know the word, but it might be 'sewed') grass or berries in the fall make me feel 10 years younger. Perfumes are something peculiar. They can make your mood change in an instant. A bit like a piece of clothing. You'll wear something and it might make you feel better. And you can really have special bonding with a perfume. It becomes part of your personality.'

Than the other page features her beauty Q&A.

Reporter : I guess you wear perfume every day.

Emily : 'It is my favourite accessory. I can't do without it. I have many different scents and each morning I pick one that suits my mood. 'Aquia di Gioia' has something rough, something natural. Completely like I am!'

Reporter : Is living healthy, close to nature, your beauty secret?

Emily : 'I am convinced that eating and living healthy do a lot of good to your looks. Happiness and confidence have the same effect. If I don't pay any attention to those, I won't feel good. You can tell from my face (facial expressions) and body.'

Reporter : What is your daily beauty routine?

Emily : 'To start off I try to sleep enough. In the mornings I drink a big glass of water and cleanse and hydrate my skin. I try to stay as much out of the sun as possible, which is not easy, since I'm always outside. I run everyday, because it calms me and balances me. I always worked out a lot. I used to walk a lot when I lived closer to nature. It's heavenly! I don't really diet, but I do pay attention to what I eat: lots of fruits, vegetables and water. That's the way I was raised, so it's automatic/natural to me. At home we always ate fruits, cereal and rather chocolate over pancakes. It's important to make the right choices, without exagerating. That junkfood is bad for you, is not a secret. But once in a while it won't harm'.

Reporter : Do you have music that makes you happy as well?

Emily : 'I love acoustic music, soft and relaxing. I recently heard the acoustic version of 'Somewhere over the rainbow' and loved it. But with friends I also like to listen to Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Rihanna. In the mornings I wake up with music. If I hear a sad song, it will influence my day and make me feel sad all day long. (Laughs)

Reporter : And favourite movies?

Emily : 'Into the wild. A very harsh and sad movie that touched me. Especially because I really like to share experiences with friends. A boy that leaves everything to get back to nature, fascinates me enormously. '

Than you have Emily's ID kit which features little facts.
  • She was born in February 1991 with Irish and Italian roots.
  • In 2008 she signed a contract with Request models.
  • Summer 2009 : Face of Guess and campaign-face of Ralph Loren.
  • May 2009 : After a couple of months modeling, Maybelline signs her as new face of the brand.
  • August 2009 : She models for lingerie lable Victoria's Secret.
  • Januari 2010 : She becomes the face of Calvin Klein.
  • June 2010 : She becomes the face of Armani's new perfume 'Aqua di Gioia'.

I really don't like the reporter. But Emily seems sweet and humble in a way I can't describe. Also I'm sorry for incorrect spelling.

such a lovely interview. this girl has a great future. i especially like the last section "ID kit" very cute

She looks so beautiful for Elle Belgie. And, i really like the fact that she loves nature. She is lovely!

I dont know if these particular shots from Emily's maybelline campaign have been posted before, but they are new to me, and im just so disgusted from the photoshop.
she looks like an adriana lima clone!! and they didnt need to do this, because she has her own charm and beauty, different from adriana's. is this why they booked a new face? to make it look like adriana? they could have taken any girls from the street then and photoshop her for eternity!

Those were posted back in the old thread and yes, the Adriana and Emily comparisons are inevitable but they are their own person. It doesn't really matter to me because it's what the company puts out, not the models.

Yes. I agree. But I dont agree with this tradition of doing that because it alters people's perception and ideals of beauty. Its very bad if you think about it. Everyone tries to look like that, which is impossible, and the consequences are so harsh for the young audiences especially, but hey...who cares...Maybelline makes cash.
And pretty girls such as Emily (who I dont think looks like Adriana, without photoshop) lose their real natural appeal and arent allowed to show it. Because it obviuosly doesnt sell.

I do know what you mean. That picture came out when Adriana was already bought out of her contract with VS Beauty and Emily was the newbie.

Looking at current ads now, they've obviously know presented Emily as she is, and not an Adriana look-a-like.

^ i guess they wanted to make an easier transition for the viewer or stg...who knows

I'm Glad she's doing soo well :)
