UP-AND-coming Brisbane model Emma Ishta has made her New York runway debut for one of Australia's biggest international designers.
Having conquered fashion weeks in Milan and Paris, the 18-year-old appeared in Melbourne fashion icon Toni Maticevski's Manhattan show. "It's very exciting to be here because I've never done this one before and it went really well," Ishta said. "I love his clothes. He does it so artistically and he always stays true to his sense of style.
Ishta, who has been modelling since age 13, worked in Paris last year and recently deferred her music studies at QUT to pursue her career. "I was at university for a couple of months in Brisbane but I moved to Sydney," she said.
Maticevski, who retails through Myer in Australia, designs for a long list of Hollywood stars – in secret.
He has no desire to expand his popular range to big retailers abroad.
"My main focus is my private clients but I never talk about that," he said. "It's more rewarding for me to have that – it's nice because it's one-on-one connection.
"It's not a weird, impersonal grab-off-the-rack," he said.
He most recently designed a dress for Abbie Cornish, who was among the best dressed at the Cannes Film Festival.
