Eva Blut - Austrian Designer

^oh you're not wrong at all. I think our industry is too homogenised at the moment to really appreciate such iconoclasm.

Great observation btw! I never thought about that before, but indeed, most of the real quirkiness coming from Europe(apart from Antwerpen, yes)at the moment are not only German or Austrian but they're also female!

I love these designers, they are really right up my alley - edgy, smart and fun - but they don't seem to be making it to the mainstream and getting a big enough fan base. I only hope they don't fizzle out...but to be honest, I don't see the big middle market that pays $$$ for Miu Miu or Marc Jacobs going for these. What do others think? Tell me I'm wrong.:)

they sure are not 'making it' to the mainstream but see, they dont aim for the mainstream Zazie, not everyone dreams of lots of bucks and super wide client base.. it's the nature of their work (handmade details etc) which cannot -and should not- be produced in volume, thats the main charm about EvaBlut's and Bless' lines.

Agreed with scott on the fact of young female european 'niche' designers rejuvenating creativity in fashion, Blut & Bless have been around for almost ten years now, i certainly believe they have created a 'school' of their own, being 'role models' for younger emerging designers..

To me, new Austrian & German designers are very hot at the moment..

^Special. I quite like that about them. Not to say, more widely known talents aren't as such but there comes something from being a bit more obscure. To me it's like buying something from an old-world crafstman or cobbler that nobody knows about. Plus, they don't worry with the pressures of having to stay afloat for the sake mere profit. I miss that in designers, actually. Used to be,all indie designers did what they wanted on their own time without this pressurisation of industry. But this is exactly what happens when conglomerates and the corporate aspects of fashion takes control. This is really the obstacle at the moment...the root of all this safeness and bland commerciality.

Btw,I think the only shops in the world that carry Eva's work is at Concrete in London(who does her PR as well)and one in Japan,I think.

AnnaK,looking at some of the textures in those cravats, doesn't it kind of remind you of trachten costume with lovely brocades? That particular dress actually reminds me of re-interpreted lederhosen.

absolutely, scott. and that's part of the reason why i like this particular piece. still i am very disappointed with a lot of the other things in this collection, this for example might be trachten inspired, too, but not in a good way:

I was going to mention Claudia Rosa Lukas too, as part of this wave, but I see Scott has already posted her details. :) I can't seem to find any SS06 images of her collection though.

My only concern for the indies is that they have to sustain a healthy profit and not go bust. The fashion market is very lopsided - on one hand you have the big brands and billions of $$$ and on the other, a few buyers for the indies. Even the music market is more evenly played out. I personally find these mod-ish designs very wearable, but it seems the market is very resistant to such changes and ideas. I mean, quite a lot of people react with total revulsion to Bless, for example. It's almost like a lifeline for me that I can find fellow TFSers posting and gushing over the same design ideas. ;)

hi! i dont know anything about austrian style. could you information about austrian style to me? ı dont found anything about this.

Estella - I do like the photos you've posted so far though from the new collection!
Thanks
i'll go check out the rest

With the emphasis on circle patterns, many of the pieces look like a simplified AsFour ... :/

^now that you say that,it does actually. But probably a bit better, imo.

Zazie,I haven't had alot of time lately to post them, but Claudia sent me her look-book images of the Spring collection after she returned from Japan. I shall try later today as it's her best yet,I think. She's really kind of moving away from the uniformity schtick-tailoring still evident but in contrast it's alot of more romantic than ever.

just thought i'd post those for the sake of history
those photos that estella posted are my favorite things of hers by far... the circle line and things afterwards dont have the same sensitive touch and spark to me
