Her agent Pavel Zotov via his Formspring said Evelina will be on cover at first issue of Vogue Ukraine!
i-Profile: Evelina Mambetova
Enrapturing beauty Evelina Mambetova is obsessed with footwear: pumps, stilettos, wedges, thigh highs, brogues and kitten heels. She is the runway model in possession of over 1500 pairs of shoes!
Born in Kiev, 20-year-old elf-like entity Evelina was first scouted at school when she was sixteen. To date, Miss Mambetova has now walked for a select edit of the most accomplished designers in the industry. Moschino, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Yohji Yamamoto and Sonia Rykiel have all invited her long, invitingly lean limbs on to their catwalks. Incredibly unusual looking, her striking doll-like features are a photographer’s dream. The brown-eyed babe has shot editorials with Tim Walker, was recently voted one of the 40 most stylish women in Ukraine by Harper’s Bazaar and is a firm favourite of the Vogue style set. i-D online traced down the jet-setting beauty to find out about her obsession d’jour: shoes glorious shoes…
From Evelina…
My love for shoes began almost 10 years ago. As a child I would sneak into my mother’s closet and try on her shoes. To me, they were the epitome of beauty. I always remember blowing out the candles on my birthday cake each year and wishing that when I grew up I would own a lot of shoes. My wish came true, I currently have 1500 pairs in my collection including designs from Christian Louboutin, Chanel, YSL, Chloé, Valentino, Miu Miu, Prada, Azzedine Alaïa, Fendi, Steve Madden, Aldo, ZARA and Topshop!
I find the best place to shop for shoes is New York! The city has such a wide selection of footwear and the best vintage stores where you can find one of a kind items. My favourite stores there are Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, their shoe departments are heavenly and I can easily spend a day there just looking at all of the wonderful creations.
When I first arrived in New York, I discovered The Steve Madden store on Broadway, which is still a favourite because you can find stylish shoes at great prices. I once found a pair of shoes there which looked just like the show shoes from the SS12 Givenchy show!
Ukraine is also good for shoe shopping, although everything is almost 3 times as expensive! My favourite stores there are Fabulous (the last time I was there I picked up a pair of Oscar De la Renta ballet pumps), The Muse and Sanahant, which both have the most amazing selection of Jil Sander, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Proenza Schouler and Gucci.
The only item I am currently missing in my collection are the Manolo Blahnik blue satin shoes worn by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. When I first saw them I fell in love and now I dream of owning them. Perhaps I will buy them for myself for my wedding as I can only imagine myself wearing them on the happiest day of my life!
Shoes in my opinion are the most important thing in a girl’s wardrobe – they can update or make an outfit. It does not matter what you wear as long as you have well-matched shoes, you’ll always look great!
