Evelina Mambetova @ Supreme (NY)

Both Yohji Yamamoto and Sonia Rykiel had some of their best castings ever for their S/S 09 collections earlier this month. Both had Evelina Mambetova on their list. Before that, she walked for Antonio Marras. He always have the best casting in Milan. The most innovative plus some of his own favorites. Even before, her NY bookings are called Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc, Philip Lim or Vera Wang just to name a few. It's not a long list, it's a strong list. This being said, Evelina's strengths and assets take their roots far beyond the catwalks and if her runway presence is delightfully uncanny, her attitude in front of the camera almost reaches an unmatched level. No comparison, just a note to say her pictures are all rare and precious pieces of a very unseen or at least unusual kind. It all started with her first polas from NY, Supreme's one can't be bad yet Evelina's were just immediate masterpieces. Then came tests by Glynis Selina Arban. Again, if we almost always love Glynis' work, Evelina brought such an extra touch of mystery, changed the overall atmosphere by her simple presence. Last but not least, her pictures with James Mahon. James impresses us with nearly every shot, James+Evelina forced us to post the whole story instead of a few picks as usual. It's hard to describe what we exactly like in her, excepted repeating again and again (and over and over again) that she has exceptional and unforgettable features. Maybe we should try to invent a new language tonight to find the right words but it would sound too idiomatic to spread the love around.
