Donatella Versace doesn't like Asian models. They cast 1-2 Asian models for runways as tokens. Campaigns? Forget it. Same for Saint Laurent. They cast Chiharu as the only Asian girl out of over 90 looks. Campaigns? Also forget it. Do I see Fei Fei fronting Versace campaign? Yes and I would love to see that. But realistically speaking? No. I hate companies that open their stores in Asia but don't support Asian models.

Not to be on Donatella's side, but some brands dont even know who they are hiring. They leave it to the casting director to offer the selections. And they will filter from the selections. Most Italian brands are caucasian heavy, but it's changing as the market in China & Korea grow.

But as a person who works in fashion here in Asia, local share holders actually would rather have a caucasian person in the ads because stupidly this justify the prices. I remembered when Fei Fei nabbed the Valentino campaign, I did my rounds in Singapore, Indonesia and Kaula Lumpur. They still put the white models in the shop front and Fei Fei's shot was relegated to in store only.

I think she would have slayed the VSFS if the show looked like in 2005/2006/2008.. But now is all too glittery and gimmick and silly, her amazing class and mystery wouldn't fit in such a childish show..
