vogueBegone male model Instagrams filled with Magic Mike–inspired straight-from-the-gym selfies! Sayonara up-close-and-personal shots of greased-up abs framed by veins! On this Bastille Day, our attention shifts to an altogether new visual: French male model Felix Gesnouin, whose appeal goes much deeper than his impeccable bone structure, tousled coif, and lone hoop earring (though, yes, those are all very appealing), or the fact that he’s a staple on men’s runways ranging from Fendi to Philipp Plein. It’s Gesnouin’s zany, hyper-random cult-favorite Instagram account, @FelixGesnouin, that has us swooning. “There is nothing worse in my opinion than a model’s Instagram, which mainly consists of a continual flow of selfies and beach horizons,” says Gesnouin of his strangely collaged and entirely absorbing feed. “I tried to separate myself from that and add a little touch of humor and ridicule, and I hope it’s perceived that way!” And Gesnouin does a fantastic job disrupting the monotonous, self-indulgent social media world with his tongue-in-cheek approach, from giving the camera a mouthful of bees (yes, they’re real), to kissing a stuffed cheetah on the mouth or exalting himself to Mother Mary status by photoshopping his face onto a religious statue—and praying to himself. So how better to celebrate Bastille Day than to ask our new favorite model to create an exclusive, liberté-inspired Instagram, just for us? Here’s what that looks like (and yes, we’re pretty sure he’s copping a feel
Another thing Gesnouin does when he’s not photoshopping his face on religious figures or morphing himself into Jabba the Hutt? Flexing, actually. You can catch a carefree Gesnouin in parkour-style states around Paris, balancing his body on poles, or on YouTube contorting his body into uncomfortable positions. And as for when he’s back on duty and at work, that same sort of breezy, jocular attitude translates on the job, as well. His favorite thing about being a male model? “Being able to observe the entire fashion industry without anyone really noticing.” At least for now, that is.
