Fendi F/W 07.08 Great Wall of China

I think it is a very elegant idea, but some part of me thinks it is wrong for there to be a fashion show on the great wall of china. I'm unaware of how the Chinese think of the Great Wall, but I would think they would be somewhat offended that it was being used to showcase fashion. Just my thoughts.

Actually, I feel like in China there has been a great move towards westernization, and the government and a good number of people have taken an attitude to out with the old and in with the new. I speak from my own opinion from what I've observed at least. But there is definitely a great deal of momentum towards getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. I feel like it's more of a Western perspective that we find it so important that a cultural identity is to be preserved. No one I know in china is particularly sentimental about historical areas...
In fact, everything is already so ridiculously commercialized compared to even ten years ago. And there's been a huge move to get rid of the old and replace it with new, so really I don't think think there is much offense taken to having a fashion show on the Great Wall. Just generally speaking, China isn't as sensitive about its history as the rest of the world seems to be.

On topic though, it is a gorgeous venue. The Great Wall is usually so crowded that it never looks anywhere as nice.

Wow! I didnt expect Fendi to pull this off, to be honest I wasnt even able to conceive how it would turn out....but I have to admit it was stunning! So beautiful that the clothes pretty much went un-noticed. I WISH I had been there. Opportunity of a lifetime! :D

The show was absolutely breath-taking, Lagerfeld is master of masters and I'm loving him even more now (if it's possible!), I think I even would be able to forgive him his horrible Chanel SS 08 show ;)

^No, it's really S/S 08 mixed in with new stuff. Kind of a mistitled thread, but this is really more of a party than a presentation anyway.

Oh ok.

It's so much more beautiful than at the actual show in Milan. Seriously, the show in Milan looked so boring, and the backdrop ...I really wished that the light caught on the dresses..

Great throwback! Funny to see the models cautious walking down the runway, but do you blame them? And I am sure it was very cold as well.

yeah I felt sorry for those first few looks, cause you see people in the audience in warmer clothes, and they're wearing Spring/Summer looks. This was such a bold staging, I'm more surprised it's Fendi and not Chanel.
