Fendi F/W 07.08 Great Wall of China

Srsly, I'm paying more attention to the location than the clothes, lol. And what is it with the coats and fur on the attendees? Is it cold already in Beijing (i'm south chinese, i got NO FRIGGIN idea how the weather turns in the north...)

^ you know, if you don't have the strong clothes you have to go with the strong merchandising and showing

but I haven't had the time to form an opinion of the clothes yet. though the idea is great. he's setting a high bar for the rest of the designers in this world.
I don't know how expensive this show was in comparising to a "normal" showing in, let's say, Paris. I don't think it's a good idea spending so much of the budget on the show rather than the clothes, if it was expensive will say.

This was probably quite expensive, they flew in models by private jet, and of course the celebrities. They also had a four day party for all the guests, so it was more of a publicity stunt, and marketing ploy than a run of mill show.

the catwalk was 800m. long... wow! poor girls!!!
and the show last 90min. ...
"zzzzzzzz"

Personally, I wish Fendi had the inspiration to do a collaboration with at least one designer from China. :ninja: Here is more video from the Italian press.

I think it looks fantastic. The view is amazing. Who cares about the clothes! lol

though i like the idea of east meet west, west meet east, commercializing the wonder of the worlds is just too MUCH. As if the great wall isn't too commecial with the stalls and shops on it.
China govt closed Starbucks in the Forbidden Palace, this time they allow Fendi on Great Wall. I bet Fendi made a damn good offer for China to refuse.

What's next?? Catwalk in the pyramid???

I absolutely agree with you! I think it's just vulgar to place runway on such a momentum..:yuk:
Great collection though:flower:

^i have to agree too. this seems almost wicked in a twisted and sad way.
i was SO glad they finally got rid of the starbucks in Forbidden Palace.
i think one of the reasons why the goverment let this to go on is definetly to promote the 2008 summer olympics even more
i have to say, i wasnt that excited when i saw/heard fendi having a show on the great wall...

im chinese and i think the chinese goverment is rather odd at time.

as for the clothes...nothing exciting, but definetly will sell in the chinese market

Those circles on the clothes almost distracted me from the venue ... Ahhh ... China ... Id go there just for the food

Gorgeous venue, and that floorlength black robe on Du Juan is stunning as well, but the clothes themselves just don't do the location justice.

If, as dior_couture already mentioned, Galliano were to show a collection inspired by ancient China, or Gaultier had taken his f/w 01 couture collection to the Great Wall it would've made perfect sense and been an extremely fabulous show.

I don't really think the comparison between this and having a Starbucks in the middle of a historical site is quite the same. Starbucks in the Forbidden City makes it more of a touristy amusement than a historical site, this is a temporary presentation that's meant primarily to bring in attention rather then profits involved with the event itself.

Fashion show at the pyramids....there's something to aspire to :woot:
