'Models From Around the World Prove Diversity Is Our Greatest Asset'

With a now-contested immigration ban threatening to stop travel from seven Muslim countries to the U.S., xenophobia is at an all-time high. It's more important than ever to acknowledge that immigrants are at the heart of American culture. The U.S. was built on the backs of foreigners, and it continues to thrive because of their immeasurable contributions to every facet of society. The fashion industry, in particular, would not exist without immigrants; some of our most talented designers and models hail from countries across the globe. To celebrate that ever-important cultural exchange, our Bookings Director Trent Axelson tapped models from around the world for our first "Global Girls" shoot. With roots in Tanzania, the Netherlands, the Dominican Republic, and more, these models prove — once and for all — that diversity is what makes fashion truly great.

FERNANDA LY FROM SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

“My favorite thing about modeling is making friends from around the world. I’ve met people from literally everywhere."

I don't think it's real. On her Instagram story she showed her hair being braided into cornrows so that's probably a wig.

I too don't think she actually cut her hair. (What if she did though at some point?)

Kate Spade Summer 2017

elle.com

The New York fashion brand brings the artful flair of Mexico City to New York for the Kate Spade Summer 2017 season. Inspired by traditional Mexican wedding dresses, carnations, hummingbirds, piñatas, cacti and a few friendly desert-dwelling critters eliciting a celebratory mood, this Summer, kate spade new york creates unexpected but delightful moments of joy throughout New York City.

For Summer 2017, model and architecture aficionado Fernanda Ly returns as the kate spade new york girl in a real-life scenario, when a seemingly everyday morning commute becomes extraordinary. As Fernanda stands in a crowded New York City subway car on a hot summer day, a trumpet and guitar begin to play, and she finds herself completely surrounded by Flor de Toloache, an all-female Mariachi band, creating a moment unique to New York City and bringing a rush of joy to all in the car.

“We are thrilled to continue working with the stunning Fernanda Ly through 2017,” shared Deborah Lloyd, kate spade new york President and Chief Creative Officer. “This season, we are about joyous, personal self-expression, and as always, we find the extraordinary in the everyday moments right here in New York.”

The Kate Spade Summer 2017 campaign features digital images and a short film shot at the New York City Transit Museum.
