Ferragamo F/W 2023.24 by Tyler Mitchell

The Best Ad of the Season Is Born

This looks promising so far.

love the composition of the painting in the backdrop in contrast to Mona’s pose and dress like she could have popped out of it.

If you’re going to shoot against a background like this the clothes should have some semblance of romance. The dress looks like it could have came from Dior, the coldest brand around. Where is the Italian warmth? Ferragamo should be the brand with killer shoes and great rtw to match. We’re not getting either of those things. Apparently mediocrity is perfectly acceptable so long as it sells decently.

I think Mona looks stunning here!

Very cool concept.

It’s a shame such an incompetent lesser is shooting this campaign, because Mona— despite having the emotive effort of a dead fish, has the face that looks like it just stepped out of a 15th-century painting. Just tragic how it’s all so incompetently, amateurly and sloppily executed. Besides Tyler's trademark lazy photography, you can see the messy edges of the digital composition, especially around the shoulders. The days of stunning creative concept and equally stunning technical execution are but a fevered dream in these days of amateur-hour. Mario’s still supreme campaign for YSL 1999 remains such a standard of concept and execution:

Those are exquisite. Absolutely exquisite.

The idea is great, but is really hard concept because the painting at the times was very symbolic and full of nuances. Here we see girl which doesn't understand this idea.

Mario in his creative prime. This campaign should be shown in museums.

They should've brainstormed longer if this is what they came up with for the campaign, like i get the vision but the execution is so poor. It also seems like Mona doesn't understand what to do.

Unfortunately, nuances and subtlety are wasted values on the people that just care it’s POC fronting/designing/producing this. That’s all they see and want.

Imagine had they cast genuine talents: Koto Bolofo shooting Binx. His striking, graphic simplicity and her razor-sharp lines would have transcended the mediocrity of the designs through the stratosphere. And you know, they just happen to be POC :shrugs:

The concept was all Pierre Bergé though…
As a frustrated creative, he made quite interesting decisions when he was able to extend his decisions in the house. From hiring Hedi or Alber to the concept of the campaigns, he had his little « Moment de gloire ».

The concept might have been all Berge but it's the photographer who executes the idea (unless Berge was on set, giving orders to everyone and constantly asking to have a look behind the camera which is highly possible lol) .

I like this, her lifeless expression does actually match the art in the back.
