I’m guessing they’re trying to do a Porsche Design thing, but it’s not working. For years, Ferrari flogged tacky logo gear mostly purchased by people who would never be able to afford an actual Ferrari — and they still sell that pony tat alongside their $1400 coats. Porsche built its lifestyle brand on craftsmanship and design, developed an understated aesthetic, and didn’t go for the highest price points. Moreover, they wisely kept a separation between their automotive brand and their lifestyle brand to let the latter stand on its own merits. Ferrari’s fashion experiment just feels intrinsically unserious by comparison.
