She is a good actress but didn't deserve to win 3 academy awards. She plays the same parts over and over. She's not a great actress.

She is no Meryl Streep or Cate Blanchett. She has been lucky, much like Hillary Swank. Fargo was written for her. It was tailored to her acting.

Hmm, I disagree that she plays the same role. I've seen this criticism quite a lot which is interesting to me. Her three Oscar winning roles could not be more different plus Burn After Reading, Almost Famous, Miss Pettigrew, Short Cuts, Hidden Agenda, Mississippi Burnning and Blood Simple... But say she did play the same role in every film, how would she be any different to Katharine Hepburn or Jimmy Stewart? I don't think you need to be radically different in each role to be considered a great actor.

I would say her filmography is more interesting than Meryl's. Not sure Frances McDormand's career could really be compared to Hilary Swank's?
