French Stars

Oh and another incredibly beautiful French woman whom I have had the pleasure to see dance:

Of course Sylvie is more beautiful on film or on stage than she is in photos. You should try and see the South Bank Show's documentary on her -the greatest ballerina in the world no question (This Darcey Bussell stuff in this country is crap. Just cos people are English they label them as the best (ugh the Olympics are a nightmare cos they only televise Team Britain and it is crazy. For Gymnastics I want to see the Chinese and Rumanians, for Pentathalon I want to see Karolina Cluft (sp?), for athletics I want to see the Americans -but no just Team Britain. Sorry random rant. Actually I was in Rumania for the Gymnastics part of the Athens olympics -luckily)). I find the English to be the worst dancers. The Russians are technically brilliant, the Americans artistically so and the cubans, spanish and other latinate dancers are passionate. However to me having long been ballet obsessed, the French manage to combine all three.

By the way has anyone mentioned Eva Green? She is gorgeous (although like Ms Guillem doesn't photograph to the natural leval of her beauty). In the first photo she rather reminds me of Claudia Cardinale

^ Just wanted to add I love lots of things about my country but I hate patriotism

Chantal Goya and Jean-Pierre Léaud on the set of Masculin, féminin

(you can watch the trailer here http://www.rialtopictures.com/masculine.html because it's so French, 1966 French, and I'm very jealous of Chantal Goya's wardrobe.)

Sorry I did a search but I couldn't find out. Here are some more Sylvie pictures (is anyone going to see her in Manon in London. I hope I can get tickets because my favourite classical ballet plus my favourite dancer =heaven!). I would post the ultimate Emmanuelle Beart picture but it is on my other computer so this one will have to do for now:

anna karina, the sylvie guillem picture you posted is one of my favourites.together with this one >>

i love and admire sylvie guillem a lot.she is probably as close to technical perfection as you can get....i like to watch her dance and move, yet she sometimes she seems a bit too.....dynamic to me.i somehow prefer the romantic fragility of ballerinas like alessandra ferri or lucia lacarra.

other beautiful french dancers...

agnés letestu:

I agree...

I'm interested in seeing Aurelie Dupont as well!!! I have friends who have seen her and I understand she is incredible to watch. Thanks for posting her!

A little photo of her...

This is going to sound intensely lame but I often find myself wishing I were a French woman!

Moi aussi!

As to the Sylvie Guillem discussion -I really dont find her too dynamic. I find that even though she is moving all the time there is a remarkable stillness that must come from her presence or her acting ability. If her fabulous extentions etc et looked strained it would take away from her dancing but they are so effortless. I do agree though that the other dancers you mentioned are sublime and I would love to see them too. It is just that with Sylvie -she is like the Kate Moss of the ballet world: A superstar but justifiably so and someone who never fails to surprise. Seeing her dance is like knowing you are living though history and that centuries down the line they'll remember her like they remember Nijinky... and you were there.

i didn´t want to lessen sylvie guillem´s achievements in any way.i agree with you,she deserves her status of a star.she might even be stronger ,technically, than alessandra ferri...i don´t know.but from what i´ve seen of sylvie guillem so far, her dramatic expression just doesn´t seem as strong to me as alessandra ferri´s ,which doesn´t mean that guillem hasn´t got any acting abilities at all....just not as intense imo.perhaps it´s also not fair that i try to compare them since i saw ferri live whereas i saw sylvie guillem only on tv/video.i hope to see guillem on stage one day too though.
i guess in the end it´s a matter of personal taste whom you prefer.the perfect dancer doesn´t exist (thanks god).they all have their strengths and weaknesses, even the ferris and the guillems ;) .
