Carmen Freudenthal and Elle Verhagen-

Carmen Freudenthal and Elle Verhagen both studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, graduating respectively as photographer and fashion designer. From 1988 they worked together expressing themselves through art projects. It is only later that they became involved in fashion and began to experiment with fashion and art. Using non-verbal photomontages they exceed photography's established values.

Work by Carmen Freundenthal and Elle Verhagen has been published in Dazed & Confused, Jalouse, Studio Voice, High Fashion, Visionaire, I-D, Self Service and N°B.
They participated in several exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Japan.

In 2003 they were responsible for the graphic design of a book about Bernhard Willhelm, which was published to coincide with the “Moderne Mode” exhibition at the Ursula Blickle Foundation in Germany during the summer of that same year. The book shows a selection from Willhelm’s designs, collections, graphical work, magazines and fashion show scenarios as well as the designer's artistic environment.

That is really odd. I was just about to make a topic about them one of these days  I recently discovered their website which left a huge impression.

I am soooo in love with their work,Perle!! Even if one isn't a fan of Bernhard, there's something rather captivating just in that he's collaborating with them.

I prove it :D With the exception of S/S 01 and a few other looks outside that I've never really loved his clothes. Freudenthal & Verhagen are just made for BW imo. Their images are dominated by silly (good silly!) collages which I think is perfect for a BW ad.

thanks for the thread, scott.
i, too, think that they bring out what bw actually could be...
it's a fascinating mix of the absurd, the comical and then also the beauty of fashion...

^^Agreed.

I really feel they're the reason I stay interested in BW,to be honest. Like you,Perle,I don't like what he's doing anymore(S/S 01 and before mixed with the odd bits here and there) but as with the picture from that issue of i-D I posted...couldn't stand that collection,at all,but put into that kind of scenario it suddenly became interesting to me.

I fully agree Scott ^_^

Just found this pic and felt that I needed to share it.
