Carmen Freudenthal and Elle Verhagen-
Carmen Freudenthal and Elle Verhagen both studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, graduating respectively as photographer and fashion designer. From 1988 they worked together expressing themselves through art projects. It is only later that they became involved in fashion and began to experiment with fashion and art. Using non-verbal photomontages they exceed photography's established values.
Work by Carmen Freundenthal and Elle Verhagen has been published in Dazed & Confused, Jalouse, Studio Voice, High Fashion, Visionaire, I-D, Self Service and N°B.
They participated in several exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Japan.
In 2003 they were responsible for the graphic design of a book about Bernhard Willhelm, which was published to coincide with the “Moderne Mode” exhibition at the Ursula Blickle Foundation in Germany during the summer of that same year. The book shows a selection from Willhelm’s designs, collections, graphical work, magazines and fashion show scenarios as well as the designer's artistic environment.
