JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, famous for using underwear as outerwear, is now set to design lingerie in its more traditional sense. He's joined forces with La Perla to design a high-end lingerie collection due to hit stores in November.
The new line will comprise 27, styles - nearly all handmade - including a waist-cinching corset and bra inspired by the cone bra that the designer created for Madonna in the Nineties.
"I met Jean Paul Gaultier a few months ago, and we immediately hit it off because we shared a common vision of beauty, style, taste and quality," said La Perla ceo Alain Prost. "So we agreed to try this adventure together and unite our savoir faire."
Gaultier famously designed Madonna's cone bra in the Nineties but the French designer has never officially launched a lingerie line until now. According to WWD, two limited-edition pieces, including a satin bra with a shoulder strap motif - will feature in the label's couture show on July 7. Prices will start at £405 for bras and briefs and £811 for corsets.
In other lingerie-related news, Belgian fashion duo A.F. Vandevorst has teamed up with lingerie label Marie Jo L'Aventure to create a one-off unique design series for autumn. The pair designed a pièce unique: three wooden dummies, wearing felt corsages.
