How's it done?

My theory:

Anyone can be a part of FW but not everyone can be on the Fashion Week Calendar. No? Any designer in NYC can be in Fashion Week by sending out enough invitations but it doesn't mean they are a part of the MBFW event.

I think Preen is new, no? This is the second show for the S/S 09 season.

I think that any Designer that has the money can show in the tents. Here's some interesting information from a link that ModelMom posted about 6 months ago:

How Much Does A Show Cost?
Though expenditures vary, among the elements needed to produce a really exciting show can be:
Tent rental: $26,000 to $46,000 depending on size
Make-up artist: $5,000
Hairstylist: $5,000
Special lighting: $28,000
Music: $5,000
Invitations: $6,500
Public Relations: $13,000
Models: $500 to $30,000
Dresser: $100 for two hours
Why Some Show And Some Don't
To make it on the runway, a designer first has to make the cut.
"There are plenty of collections out there that do big business, but they're not runway-worthy--their looks are not fashion-forward and they are not directional," she says. "Buyers and the press have very little tolerance for seeing bland, mainstream collections on the runway." She adds, "Those that show are the talented leaders in the industry and their influence trickles down to everyone else."
The real judge and jury, she explains, are the reviews from press and buyers.

"If they don't get any press and don't sell well," she says, "they don't show up again next season."
New York, Paris, Milan Or London?
New York primarily showcases American or New York-based designers, with a sprinkling of designers from Australia, England, Spain and Russia joining them.
"If you want to do business in New York," says Mallis, "you show in New York."

Getting a spot on NY or London Fashion Week

Hi everyone,

I am researching how to get a spot to showcase a collection on New York or London's fashion week.
I would like to know how to get a slot, costs, timing, who to contact etc, so if anyone has any information please let me know.

Also, if anyone has show-cased their collection there, what was the whole experience like and what was the pro's and cons of the week.:flower:

You can email me at [email protected]

im not sure what you have to do or how big your line is supposed to be to get into nyfw or similar but here in mexico its more about the money (shocker!) but ive heard it costs about 30,000 dlls to just get in there, plus models and make up and allt he things bettet pointed out. it reduces the chances for small lines to get in there to get more coverage.

I've recently become an American resident and I'm really interested in showing a collection at NY Fashion Week. Are the prices mentioned above still accurate? I presume they change over time? Also I heard there is an interview process involved in obtaining a slot. Does anyone have any more information?

here in the UK it's mainly money but also contacts. If you're in their radar you'll be approached but obviously you can only do it if you have the money. And if you have the money you can approach them and they are unlikely to turn you down.

Why don't you just go on the Mercedes-Benz FW site and see if there is someone to contact about thier prices for the tent, etc. That's what I'd do ... it would be the best way to get accurate information and not just hearsay from the net. Of course, all the other crew and PR would be extra ... and it might have dropped some, due to the recession. But I don't really know how much it might have dropped and when the economy recovers it will most likely go back up quickly. That is all negotiated at the time you are planning the show.

Applying to show during Fashion Week

I’ve searched across the internet and cannot quite find what I am looking for, but I am looking for how to contact about showing during a fashion week, specifically Paris or Milan, and what is required ? What fees are involved and how far in advanced do you have to apply to get on the calendar ? Thanks !
