Macy’s continues to up the fashion quotient in its Impulse contemporary department with a new designer collaboration with Giambattista Valli, according to sources. The one-off collection is part of a four-designer initiative to bring more fashion excitement and younger customers to the Impulse department, which sells brands like BCBG Max Azria, Free People and Kensie, said sources.

Valli’s collection is slated to be in stores in November, following on the heels of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs for Impulse, which will be at 250 Macy’s stores and on Macys.com in September. The program kicked off with two British designers, Kinder Aggugini in February followed by Matthew Williamson in April. As for Valli’s involvement, a representative for Macy’s said, “We have not announced the next designer and do not comment on speculation.” (wwd)

the preview is up.

i love it. this is definitely better than karl lagerfeld for macys.

the mauve strapless ruffled belted dress definitely looks red carpet worthy.

Do you know anything about the prices, Lucy?. I've been hardly impressed by collaborations this year and the only thing I have ever liked from Giambattista Valli were the dresses from S/S 10:

The fact that he recreated it in a street-friendly version, which actually looks better than the original, gets me so excited :heart:... I want it, whatever it takes, I only hope the prices are not too silly for Macy's.

i think this dress is $129. the skirt is $99 and the blouse is $79. (coutesy photo via macys)

anyone can walk into a customer service area at macys and ask for a 10% coupon...

this definitely looks better than all the previous macy's collaborations

i'm actually interested in checking this out :P

still haven't gone in to take a look at the karl lagerfeld stuff

i saw a few pieces of the collection in stores today.
my macy's had some GV on mannequins behind a velvet rope  with a big coming soon sign. of course the linoleum around the mannequins was cracked and broken....

the dress that mulletproof likes is not sheer. the grosgrain ribbon band around it looked rather puckered.

This is the only pic that hasn't been posted.

Pradable, you need to list a source for every image you post here at TFS. it is part of our Community Rules.

Street_a_Licious, yes, all the pieces i saw were synthetics.

I'd pick up a few pieces, but my instincts tell me the quality is not going to be impressive. There is only so many miracles you can pull out for things to RETAIL at $100.

this dress worn by diane kruger is very similar to the dress that sasha wears in the ads for giambattista for macys. (imnotobsessed)

I like the concept but the dress has no shape! It looks bad on Diane and she NEVER looks bad!

olivia palermo wore a dress that is similar to the one with the red band near the hip, and it didn't look good on her either (although it had a fur hem)...

i went to a preview for the collection tonight in san francisco, and i really love the red dress with the black belt, and the two tweed jackets...
the short sleeve red leopard dress is interesting...it has a slight metallic sheen to it...
people seemed to really love the leopard pieces...
