Kind of a lazy, flimsy tribute feature... But Bob Kreiger’s shot of Armani for the leading spread would have made a way way way stronger cover select for this issue. Best image in the entire issue, actually.

The only worthy story of the Vogue Italia October issue. Great selection of pics but so unfortunate that the layout looks like it was done by either a 10 yo or their 65yo grandmother for their scrapbooking project.

Laughable selection of images from "fashion bible"

vogue.com not even did their usual "Best moments in Vogue from the archive" gallery. The last one they did was when Anna's bestie was sent into retirement from Versace

I'm surprised it isn't a 40+ page spread. He helped create an Italian fashion institution, with it cementing himself and his brand into pop culture and the everyday. For Italian Vogue to be so succinct with it is bit of a faux pas.

He’s speaking French  , that’s rare for Italian designer. Though I know it’s his second language because a lot of his designer friends are french and japanese (french is like the only language they all spoke at the time).

I also loved when he spoke French.
I think it was a generational thing. Designers of his generation or at least, who rose to fame in the 60’s/70’s/80’s used to speak French or at least had a knowledge of French.
Ferre, Valentino, the Pucci family, the Fendi family, I suspect Gianni spoke French too as his partner was fluent in French.
Post WW2 there was the cinema connection between Italy and France so cinema/fashion.

And he is from a generation that still had balls and things like that as there was still a vivid high society where those circles mixed. And VP, through Francine Crescent (who also married an Italian) was very influential and supportive of Italian designers who also looked for the validation of the Parisian scene.

It’s almost a pity it got lost. I don’t think Italian designers today are that good in French and neither that French designers are doing effort in Italian.

However, I think he pulled an Alaia on the world. How someone who had so many American friends needed a translator!? I guess he spoke French with Lee Radzwill then…

He looks like JWA, especially in that first photo.
Put some respect on his name. Just kidding. I can see it.

In that first photo, I thought he looked more like one of the American heartthrob actors from the 40s & 50s, but I can’t remember which one, and it’s gonna bug me now…:ermm:

One of my favorite outfits from his couture collections. It kind of reminds me of Ann D for some reason. (src: my phone)

Since JWA is mentioned, lol, I can’t help but think of that portrait of Basquiat where he’s dressed in Armani.
I hate this Bliss Foster person but he knows the myth.

Speaking of JWA…

Look at these fabrics here. They do not look like easy fabrics to work with (this, I have no experience with, so I might be wrong), but the construction here is flawless. Imagine if Jonathan used this for a Dior red carpet outfit, and I’m willing to bet that it’d wind up looking like total sh*t. (Src: Vogue Aus, WWD)
