Got to admit to a wee bit of a soft spot for Armani menswear. Although i don't wear any of it now, it was my introduction to fashion really, and I still find it appealling in some ways. My first "fashion fantasy" was to have a black label armani suit (I probably had this fantasy when I was about 15, which is kind of pathetic - rock'n'roll!). Of course, this collection is more or less like the last - he may as well be a computer programme by now. But he IS very good at it. The fabrics are lovely and the basic shape - tight jacket and loose trousers - is essentially flattering to men, and no one does it better than Armani. There are a lot of nice pieces in this collection. Bizarrely it is quite influenced by the comme winter 04 collection - the knitted jackets and the high sheen velvet shrunken jackets - but I think Giorgio is a secret fan of Rei. I remember years ago reading an interview with him and him being asked which other designers he admired. First on his list was CDG, and I remember the reason he gave - "they cut out the fuss". This is a concept obviously appealling to Armani, but one that comme have somewhat moved on from (Pink Panther!!). He still seems to cast a glance in their direction though....
